What you’ll be doing...

This opportunity is for Military personnel who are current participants of the Department of Defense SkillBridge Program.

As the Financial Reporting and Corporate Accounting Policy Lead, you will support both the External Reporting and Policy teams. The External Reporting team is responsible for the preparation of periodic filings with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (“SEC”), primarily Forms 10-K, 10-Q and 8-K. The Policy team is the global professional practices group responsible for weighing in on the accounting for strategic initiatives, new product offerings, partnerships/joint ventures and other key drivers of Verizon’s future growth.

  • Preparing periodic filings with the SEC, primarily Forms 10-K and 10-Q, including footnotes and Management’s Discussion and Analysis and XBRL tagging.
  • Working to develop solutions to accounting / disclosure issues and proposing solutions.
  • Researching technical accounting issues and evaluating the disclosure impact related to new events and activities, as well as the impact of new accounting standard updates.
  • Working with corporate accounting teams to understand transactions that the company enters into and the accounting treatment / disclosure in accordance with U.S. GAAP.
  • Collaborating with Investor Relations, Legal, Treasury and the business units to ensure consistent and accurate reporting of results and messaging to external stakeholders.
  • Developing and maintaining relationships with individuals across the business as needed to resolve accounting and reporting issues and open items.
  • Assisting senior management with making critical business decisions by providing the proper accounting treatment and impact analysis.
  • Accelerating transformation and change, create best practices and drive continuous process improvement.
  • Establishing, maintaining and supporting compliance with company-wide accounting policies.
  • Reviewing and providing technical guidance for material transactions and complex accounting issues.
  • Reviewing business unit initiatives and transactions to ensure consistent application of the Company’s accounting policies.
  • Researching emerging accounting and reporting issues and prepare and submit comment letters on behalf of the Company.
  • Developing and presenting technical accounting training sessions to accounting and finance employees.

You’ll need to have:

  • This opportunity is for Military personnel who are current participants of the Department of Defense SkillBridge Program.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting/Finance or four or more years of work experience.
  • Four or more years of relevant work experience.

Even better if you have one or more of the following:

  • Two or more years of experience working in public accounting or SEC reporting.
  • CPA certification (or are in the process of getting certified).
  • Strong technical financial skills and a comprehensive knowledgeof accounting, GAAP, PCAOB standards and SEC regulations.
  • Project management experience and ability to work with numerous diverse groups throughout a very large organization.
  • Strong analytical and communication skills.
  • Ability to meet deadlines in compressed time periods.
  • Strong Attention to detail.
  • Experience collaborating with multiple departments, peers, and leaders.
  • Ability to research complex regulations and research.
