Verizon is hiring full-time temporary Technicians to replace those employees who are on strike.

We are hiring VA/DC area:

  • Richmond area - 11
  • Norfolk/Newport News area - 18
  • Northern VA/DC area - 42

Technicians are the people who keep our fiber-optic network rolling. Develop your skills and gain hands-on experience. You'll be out and about in the neighborhoods we serve, installing, testing, repairing and maintaining the technology that keeps millions of customers connected.

Duties may include but are not limited to the following:

  • Install, rearrange and reconnect fiber optic and/or associated copper wiring at pole, underground or building terminals.
  • Configure, connect, disconnect, test, repair and maintain Company and customer equipment.
  • Work with fiber optics services and digital subscriber line (DSL).
  • Perform diagnostic tests on integrated circuit equipment to determine source of problem.
  • Interpret service orders and circuit diagrams.
  • Evaluate customer communication needs and promote the sale of Company products.
  • Communicate with customers on matters dealing with service, planning and billing.
  • Work aloft; climb ladders and poles; enter tunnels, buildings, trenches, crawl spaces, manholes and other confined spaces.
  • May perform light digging.
  • May work outdoors in all weather conditions,
  • Wear appropriate safety equipment as required; may work in presence of hazardous materials.


  • Must meet medical standards for the job. Ability to perceive differences in wire and cable colors. Must meet weight restriction to comply with OSHA/Company safety standards.
  • Ability to move and/or lift items such as ladders, tools, cable, test equipment and other objects weighing up to 100 pounds.
  • Must meet applicable federal and state standards for operating the size vehicles required.
  • Must possess a valid state driver's license with a satisfactory driving record. Must have ability to drive vehicle with manual gearshift and read and interpret road maps.
  • Where a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is required
    • The candidate will receive related, Company-provided Department of Transportation (DOT) training. Upon completion of DOT training
    • Must qualify on DOT's CDL written and skills qualifications tests.
    • Candidate must pass an alcohol and drug test.
  • Must be available to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and overtime as business needs dictate.
