What you’ll be doing...

Verizon is hiring for a Senior Application Consulting Engineer, located in Dublin, Ireland. The candidate will be part of a global service operations team who operate on hosting and on-premise based services. The role will place the candidate firmly in the domain of Cryptography, working with a wide range of customers in the Identity Management space. The key focus will be to ensure that Verizon’s products and services are in scope of customer needs, whilst ensuring that the existing technologies are delivering the desired results. It will be necessary to have a hands-on approach to this role at an application engineering level, whilst also having a consulting mindset when engaging with our client SME’s. Your consultant skills will allow you to bring ideas and solutions, where necessary, to both internal and external audiences thus demonstrating your expertise and helping progress Verizon’s target and roadmap.

Essential Functions

  • Provide an exceptional level of technical expertise from a systems and application SME perspective, ensuring to meet the challenges within a dynamically changing customer environment.
  • Go above and beyond for our customers, providing solutions around general cryptographic technologies whilst working within a defined business framework.
  • Focused delivery on resolution of issues within a high degree of customer satisfaction, technical expertise, business acumen and timeliness.
  • Follow operational process and procedures as per the existing and continually adapting function of a global operations and product engineering Centre.
  • Participate professionally but firmly when necessary on customer facing engagements.
  • Interact with 3rd party vendors at both a technical and professional level.

Responsibilities and Additional Duties

Problem/Query resolution:

  • Provide expert and creative solutions for problems reported on Verizon Security Products to ensure external and internal customer satisfaction and productivity.
  • Coordinate escalation of user, product and support issues among sales, product development and/or marketing to ensure timely distribution of knowledge and positive impact on customer satisfaction and productivity.
  • Where escalation to engineering is required, provide detailed diagnostic information including problem origination theories, environment configuration, debugging output and relevant logs and traces.
  • Co-ordinate problem fixes/patches between development, internal teams and customers.
  • Collaborate with team members globally and provide guidance, direction, solutions and recommendations, as and when needed.
  • Research, develop/recommend and test diagnostic tools for improving diagnostic capability relative to products/services which will benefit all.

Product review:

  • Co-ordinate with development team on product release process and perform Quality Assurance testing on fixes/patches as appropriate, reflecting back on escalation for rectification where necessary.
  • Review product documentation for new releases and comment as/where necessary to Product Management and/or development / tech writers.
  • Communicate product enhancement suggestions, both personal and customer generated to Product Management with due consideration of impact and value.
  • Generate technical and business tips & FAQs via an on-line Knowledge Base, on products, their installation, use and maintenance.


  • Work with development and product management departments in the generation of training materials and the provision of training to Support, sales, pre-sales and customers as required.
  • Present solutions that will benefit customers and the business long term, where appropriate.
  • Consistently operate using appropriate issue tracking, development tracking and other systems on a daily basis, managing workload and critical/priority issues.
  • Operate on a weekend On-call basis rota.

What we’re looking for...

You'll need to have

  • Bachelor’s degree or relevant work experience.
  • Experience with networking.
  • Experience with Oracle databases (SQL).
  • Experience with operating systems (including MS Windows and Linux), shells, systems resource management, access and rights control management, process management and process tracing/debugging.
  • Experience with VMware/vCentre/vMotion.

Even better if you have:

  • A technical degree in relevant field and equivalent experience
  • Three or more years of experience in a relevant senior technical role.
  • Excellent application diagnostic/debugging skills.
  • Ability to provide solutions at consulting level with relating level clients.
  • Ability to work in a team providing solutions and implementing pre/production deployments, as and when needed.
  • Excellent document writing skills.
  • Excellent at managing own workload in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong understanding of Priority vs Criticality.
  • Solid customer relations and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Applied team communications and interpersonal skills.
  • Good presentation skills.
  • Good hands-on experience with Java/Python.
  • Good understanding of PKI and relating cryptography related areas.
  • ITIL / CISSP / other Security Certifications.
