What you’ll be doing...

The Senior Network Security Engineer is responsible for the management of multiple security platforms supporting services infrastructure. This role will work closely with the Security Operations Center (SOC) as an escalation point for design, implementation, and complex problem analysis and incident resolution on security devices, primarily firewalls. Change management responsibilities include reviewing requirements, designing, documenting, and implementing change in accordance with Verizon and customer security standards.


The Principal Security Engineer activity will require senior level knowledge of specific security products and the ability to understand how the products might be utilized in customer environments or in a comprehensive security platform. This role also requires a solid understanding of networking and the ability to troubleshoot complex environments.


The Principal Security Engineer is expected to work as a member of an integrated network and security team and should be able to communicate effectively and intelligently via phone, email, or ticket escalations. This role is customer focused.
Major Responsibilities include:

  • Design, engineer, document and implement firewall and security device change requests in security devices
  • Incident management through complex troubleshooting of security devices/solutions
  • Planning and overseeing Release management entities (ex. security patching, signatures, code upgrades)
  • Escalation point for device based incidents
  • Training of peers
  • RMA of security devices
  • On/Off boarding of devices to health platform as needed

What we’re looking for...

You will need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree or six or more years of work experience
  • Six or more years of relevant work experience
  • Six or more years of experience as a security device engineer, with a focus on firewalls
  • Must have a current government security clearance, or be eligible to qualify for a government security clearance, at the Public Trust level
  • Experience in implementation, configuration, change management, and advanced troubleshooting with three or more of the following security devices:
    • Fortigate/FortiAnalyzer/FortiAuthenticator/FortiManage or other brand of firewall
    • Sourcefire IPS/IDS
    • Splunk
    • GigaMon
    • A10
    • FireEye
    • Routers and switches
    • F5 load balancer

Even better if you have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Security or related discipline
  • ITIL Foundations Certification
  • Administrator level experience on UNIX/Linux operating system
  • Strong knowledge of DNS
  • Strong communication skills and ability to engage with customers to understand their requirements
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills

  • Ability to identify, communicate, and remediate gaps in processes
  • Ability to work and excel within a team environment
  • Experience with several of the following security devices/platforms:
    • Fortigate/FortiAnalyzer/FortiAuthenticator/FortiManager
    • Cisco/Juniper/CheckPoint/Palo Alto Firewalls; IPS/IDS
    • Demisto, Splunk, QRadar, RSA Security Analytic
    • A10, FireEye, FirePower
    • Bluecoat, Tripwire
  • Active security certification in one or more of the following: CCSE, CISSP, CCSP, JNCIP, CCNA Security, Security +, CCNP Security
  • UNIX/Linux command line experience
