What you’ll be doing...

The Senior Contract Manager (CM) will report to the Associate Director, Contract Management and will be responsible for managing a team of approximately six CMs who coordinate the contract drafting and negotiations within the IT Category Team. The Senior CM will also oversee contract development and management of contractual documents, working in partnership with the Category Sourcing Expert, key Verizon suppliers, internal Business and Legal Departments.

The CM acts as an advisor and/or expert for contract related issues and must apply critical thinking skills and work independently to make sound business decisions on behalf of the Company. Day to day work of the CM requires significant interpretation of diverse contractual issues as well as the ability to identify any potential risk factors in which the business needs to consider for the execution of the Agreement. Ongoing contract compliance and issue resolution as needed after contract execution. The CM also works closely with Internal Audit as necessary and Supplier's auditors to resolve contract compliance issues.

Contract Development

  • In accordance with Verizon's priorities, review Supplier requests for changes to contracts, assess risk of implementing changes, and recommend Verizon's response.
  • Provide leadership in drafting and negotiating terms & conditions with Suppliers.
  • Acts as the liaison between Sourcing Specialist, Business Partner, Legal and Supplier contractual related Supplier issues and/or questions.
  • Secure Legal approval (as required) of response and negotiate resolution with Supplier.
  • Work collaboratively with Sourcing Specialist to ensure that all contract document templates are properly prepared for Request for Proposal (RFPs).
  • Meet with Legal attorneys to clarify and negotiate complex sourcing contractual issues and or other Supplier concerns.
  • Interpret contractual rights and obligations to business partner and Sourcing Specialist.

Contract Compliance

  • Ensure current Verizon standard language, including new terms and conditions, is added to all contracts, as appropriate.
  • Manage supplier dispute resolution through formal or informal dispute resolution channels.
  • Review and interpret Sourcing and Corporate Policy requirements.
  • Responsible for consultation and escalation to senior management of current and potential issue.

You will need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree or relevant work experience.
  • Willingness to travel.

Even better if you have:

  • A degree in LLB, LLM, or BCL or in a relate field.
  • Telecom Network or IT experience.
  • Six or more years’ experience in contract management or sourcing position.
  • Experience negotiating & managing agreements with significant annual spend.
  • Strong interpersonal and client-service skills.
  • Self-starter with ability to work independently.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong issue resolution and negotiation skills.
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple concurrent deliverables in a very dynamic and variable environment where business assumptions fluctuate frequently.
  • Excellent contract drafting skills in areas of Statement of Work (SOW).
  • Strong understanding of procurement contract clauses and principles.
  • Strong understanding of procurement contract risks and how to mitigate those risks.
  • Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply (CIPS).
  • Certified Professional in Supply Management (CPSM), Certified Purchasing Manager (CPM) from the Institute of Supply Chain Management, or related certification.
  • Certifications from the National Contract Management Association, or related:
    • Certified Federal Contracts Manager (CFCM)
    • Certified Commercial Contracts Manager (CCCM)
    • Certified Professional Contracts Manager (CPCM)
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) from the Project Management Institute.
  • Lean Six Sigma experience and / or certification.
