What you’ll be doing...

Fueled by the Verizon 5G future, the New Business Incubation (NBI) team is anchored in the Corporate Strategy organization of Verizon and provides a focused effort to generate new business concepts built upon the strength of Verizon's best-in-class network, broad customer base and massive capabilities. Incubating these ideas from new to big portfolio entities, the NBI team is made up of passionate innovators that manage strategy, full stack team execution (business development & partnerships, business operations, product, engineering, sales, marketing, etc) and P&L responsibilities. Today, the NBI portfolio spans location technology, drone and aviation services, immersive experiences and other nascent technologies that will accompany our future.

We are looking for a Senior Business Development Manager, passionate about next generation technologies, who will be responsible for creating value for working across a portfolio of the NBI businesses and capabilities. This role will both support and lead tactical and strategic partnership negotiations to support the NBI team to marry business needs with emerging technologies and leading the define compelling solutions that accelerate the adoption of digital products and industry capabilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Act as a thought partner to the business by supporting NBI leadership, management and other business stakeholders to develop initiatives to support NBI portfolio strategies.
  • Coordinate with cross-divisional stakeholders within NBI and the broader Verizon to identify, structure and negotiate partnerships to enable the NBI business to move further, faster.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships across the organization to exchange best practice, innovation, creativity and ensure continuous improvement.
  • Understand the relevant industry ecosystems and make recommendations on best way of leveraging startups through partnerships, investment, and/or with corporate development to consider acquisitions.
  • Develop network of industry contacts to increase Verizon’s ability to uncover partnerships and investment opportunities.
  • Champion partnership innovation projects (e.g., partnerships with fast growth companies) with cross-functional stakeholders to strengthen Verizon’s innovation capabilities.
  • Develop value proposition, KPIs, and execution plan for partnering with fast growth companies in product development, including approach to identify and evaluate potential partners.
  • Conduct partnership due diligence and analysis for proposes of revenue, OpEx, CapEx modeling and forecasting.
  • Work with C-level executives to gain buy-off and/or sign-off on strategic partnerships; manage signoff process in line with company policies and procedures.

What we’re looking for...

You’ll need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of work experience.
  • Six or more years of relevant work experience.

Even better if you have:

  • MBA or Master’s Degree.
  • Ten or more years of partnership development experience; preferably with diversity of experience in both tactical and strategic deal making and negotiations.
  • Knowledge of emerging technologies (geospatial, location, drone/aviation, AI/ML, AR/VR, blockchain, robotics, IoT, etc.).
  • Five or more years of experience driving strategy development or substantially similar innovation role.
  • Identify partnership opportunities in the market and take the ideas from conceptualization of innovation to delivery.
  • Ability to balance needs of multiple stakeholders from different functions.
  • Exceptional analytical and strategic thinker.
  • Ability to maintain and develop business and vendor relationships.
  • Willingness to disagree with and challenge peers.
  • Ability to continually identify and execute on improvement opportunities.
  • Knowledge of how partnerships works.
  • Strong operational knowledge and experience across key business areas.
  • Ability to build networks/relationships, especially with technical founders and business partners.
  • Collaboration with NBI and Verizon stakeholders across all business functions.
  • Strong leadership skills.
  • Exceptional planning, coordination, and execution skills and comfort working in a high-pace, rapidly changing environment without concrete definition.
  • Ability to negotiate, influence, manage and drive action.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated capabilities in extrapolating business strategies, market sizing and risk analysis.
