What you’ll be doing...

We’re looking for an Engineer, Aeronautical Management and Operations to work within our flight operations team safely flying and overseeing the flight testing of Skyward products and drone ecosystem partner solutions. You’ll be working in an exciting startup environment within the foundation of a large company (Verizon).   • Testing and analysis: Support Skyward, Verizon, and partner drone development by helping stand up and then managing the Western Aviation Development Center’s (ADC) testing and evaluation (T&E) flight program and related flight analysis program leveraging Skyward, Verizon, and partner capabilities and products.
  • Engagement and education: Be the face of future, connected drone aviation by engaging with engineering colleagues, OEM partners, Skyward/Verizon colleagues, potential clients, visiting VIPs, regulators, and the media through T&E program engagement and through capability demonstrations.
  • Project and facility management: Help stand up and provide management of the ADC, related equipment, and facility support service contractors while providing project management of related operations.
  • Test and demonstration flight execution: Serve as a pilot within the ADC Department while maintaining a high level of proficiency and currency.
  • Crisis response augmentation: Be prepared to deploy in support of Verizon crisis response operations during natural disasters and national security events as part of the larger Verizon crisis response team.

What we’re looking for...

You will need to have:

  • 7+ total years work experience with at least 4 years in drone flight operations in or serving large or complex organizations (enterprise, government, or military)
  • 4+ years management experience executing all phases of flight operations from planning through post-execution analysis and overseeing associated assigned aircraft, equipment, facilities, ground crews and air crews.
  • 4+ years experience conducting independent operation of sUAS (drones) in demanding environments (real time risk assessment) such as near electrical infrastructure, or construction sites and in ambiguous, emerging environments.
  • Current 14 CFR Part 107 remote pilot certificate with experience requesting regulatory waivers and authorizations for accessing complex airspace as part of a standards’ based flight crew

Even better if you have:

  • Development and operational testing experience supporting engineers and OEMs to support new product development and/or experience leveraging current, domain representative configurations of drone software (e.g. mapping tools) and aircraft.
  • Clear communication ability - written and oral - as well as presentation skills. The aptitude to effectively relay complex information to others combined with strong collaboration skills.
  • A strong sense of urgency and bias to action - able to think on your feet and superior problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or a related discipline or equivalent professional education such as flight school, airframe and powerplant school, or similar.
  • Able to travel within the continental USA, internationally to a lesser extent and, periodically support nighttime operations and willingness to wear Skyward provided standard equipment.
  • Contribute to our internal culture and team camaraderie as part of a professional cadre building something incredible.
  • Experience as a maintenance test pilot, experimental test pilot, standardization pilot or similar and/or experience as a drone pilot involved in new product development
  • Experience editing and implementing written procedures within highly regulated and standardized industries
  • Experience working within a Safety Management System framework
  • Part 61 Pilot Certificate
  • Knowledge of and enthusiasm about the drone industry and technology in general
