  • Collecting data related to system problems, analyzing it, and developing resolutions.
  • Maintaining functional and technical requirements, analyzing hardware/software features and enhancements, and understanding system architectures, system operations, end-to-end designs, and device-system interactions.
  • Interpreting industry standards to ensure the integrity of our platform engineering designs and vetting all methods of procedures (MOPs) to ensure technical standards are met.
  • Assisting in planning, designing, equipment selection, staging, testing, and integration of new system hardware, software, and virtualized functions of the cloud.
  • Partnering with various HQ departments in technology trials, interoperability tests, run first office applications.
  • Participating in vendor evaluations, and performing evaluations and quality control analysis.
  • Overseeing multiple large-scale, complex platforms and providing third-tier support functions.

Principal Network Engineer – Visible IMS

This is a Principal Engineer position within Maintenance Engineering organization with a responsibility of Visible IMS platform. Visible is Verizon's pre-paid brand, a first all-digital wireless offering within US - Unlimited data, text, talk, and hotspot, on Verizon's 4G LTE Network. Candidate will function as a lead in support of Visible IMS solution, supporting 14+ IMS/EPC virtualized network components. Ideal candidate should have in-depth understanding of end to end IMS call flows, virtualization technologies, resource orchestration and expert level troubleshooting skills (debugging/packet analysis). Candidate should have an expertise in scripting (Ansible, Jenkins, Python, etc) and have a knack for using these abilities to enhance test automation and orchestration.Detailed responsibilities are listed as below -

Subject Matter Expert and 3rd tier support:

The PMTS will be responsible for acting as a subject matter expert who provides technical leadership and expert level guidance with regards to the Visible IMS platform that consists of 14+ VNFs (representing IMS components and Application Servers) and end-to-end VOLTE/VOWIFI/Messaging/Data call flows. As a subject matter expert, individual will responsible for leading multi-discipline teams, performing technical analysis of proposed solutions and drive collaboration with other teams for the integration and validation in the lab, FOA (First Office Application) and during commercial deployment.

Roadmap, Lab and FOA:

The PMTS will be engaged in planning, design, staging, testing, and integration of VNFs and new features/ functionalities for the Visible service. The engineer will work with the vendor to develop and implement product roadmaps which improve the product performance, functionality and program profitability for the Visible Service. The engineer will actively manage lab environment in which they will certify new software prior to the production installation. The engineer will lead operational teams in the FOA process and standardizing processes for the subsequent rollouts. The engineer also will lead test automation and CICD for the platform with a focus on agile delivery while maintaining the quality of the product.

Design consistency, standardization and reliability:

The PMTS will create and publish functional and technical requirements. The engineer will analyze design, features and enhancements in order to develop test plans which effectively confirm the successful deployment and operation of the product. The engineer will fully understand system architectures, system operations, end-to-end designs and device-system interactions in order to develop troubleshooting guides to be used by all other Network organizations.

Outage management:

The PMTS will provide outage resolution oversight. The engineer will act as the central VZW escalation/support contact to NRB, NOCC, Ops and Engineering teams during the major outage. The engineer will lead discussions involving cross functional teams (including vendors) to drive RCA and develop short term and long term solutions. The engineer will also be holding vendor accountable for the SLA and penalty credits for the outages.

Administrative management:

The PMTS will provide administrative management of the monitored products. This management requires the engineer to negotiate Service Level Agreements, Statements of Work and General Purchasing Agreements. The engineer will track vendor performance through establishing scorecard, identify area of improvement and put an improvement plan in place. The engineer will be challenged to minimize the cost of all new capital purchases as well as actively reduce existing vendor expense costs "year over year".

What we’re looking for...

You’ll need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of work experience.
  • Six or more years of relevant work experience.
  • Wireless industry experience.

Even better if you have:

  • A degree in computer science or electrical engineering.
  • Experience with Red Hat Linux, virtualization (KVM),
  • Experience with cloud architecture.
  • Experience with Management and Orchestration (NFVi or Resource Orchestration).
  • Experience with OpenStack (RHEL Director) and OpenStack services (Horizon, Nova, Neutron, Keystone, Ceilometer, Glance, Heat, Cinder/Swift, or Ceph).
  • Project/vendor management experience.
  • Experience with Python, bash, JSON, YAML, REST, or Ansible.
  • Experience with QCOW2 or RAW images.
  • Experience with TCP/IP, Routing and OSI 7-layer protocol.
  • Experience with Server Load Balancing (SLB).
  • Experience with IMS and/or VoLTE.
  • Experience with network automation and deployment methods, managing data center elements, hardware, software, and power requirements, and overseeing vendors.
