As an Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for leading a multi-disciplined group of software, embedded, and network engineers building software, hardware, and network products that connect drones to the software services that power them on the Verizon network. In this role you will lead your team, getting the best out of your engineers, helping them develop their careers, and deliver products that allow our customers to fly in more ways and more places. You will use your technical background to help the team estimate work, craft approaches to solving problems, and work closely with the product and QA teams to deliver value to customers. You should have demonstrable experience leading agile, strategic projects as well as experience managing diverse engineering groups.

Responsibilities

  1. Managing and directly administering a staff of software, embedded, network, devops, and automation engineers with overall responsibility for our aviation communications architecture, builds, and configuration/release management.
  2. Developing aviation network technology’s technical strategy through collaboration with product managers to achieve business objectives around customer value, interoperability, maintainability, and quality.
  3. Coordinating development work scope and timing across other engineering and product leaders at Skyward. This involves forecasting delivery and required resourcing, as well as setting and meeting quality goals.
  4. Translating market and product needs to executable development plans and identifying and elevating as necessary delivery risks to senior management.
  5. Continuously improving team’s Agile process to strike a balance between process, trust, and customer value delivered.

What we’re looking for...

You will need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience
  • 3+ years in leading engineering practices and teams
  • 5+ years of relevant work experience as a software engineer working in an Agile environment
  • Advanced understanding of IoT products and the interplay of hardware and software
  • Experience transitioning products from R&D and early-development to production ready, and supported projects
  • Strong experience in day to day production reality – availability, root cause and correlation analysis
  • Proven ability to foster and build trust in a team environment
  • Knowledge of configuration & release management processes
  • Working knowledge of Agile methodologies such as Scrum and Kanban

Even better if you have:

  • Experience developing software solutions for Unmanned Aircraft Systems.
  • Knowledge of and enthusiasm about the drone industry, such as manned or unmanned pilot experience.
  • Clear communication ability - written and oral - as well as presentation skills. The aptitude to effectively relay complex information to others.
  • Strong collaboration skills and the ability to work with and motivate team members, peers and leadership. You should be a peer leader who maintains a team orientation, with the desire to collaborate to reach excellent results.
  • A strong sense of urgency and bias to action - able to think on your feet.
  • Superior problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • A great sense of humor and drive to have fun!
