What you’ll be doing...

As a key member of the HQ Device Technology team, you will contribute to Verizon’s 5G repeater strategy by providing technical leadership on mmWave specifications and features. You will be a subject matter expert on a variety of 5G technologies, create requirements and test plans, and provide technical direction to internal teams as well as external stakeholders.

In this role you will:

  • Evaluate solutions for 5G mmWave repeaters and provide recommendations to executive management.
  • Create novel methods to extend mmWave coverage and allow for a ubiquitous 5G user experience.
  • Interface with internal teams, device vendors, chipset vendors and network vendors to develop mmWave repeater products specific to VZW’s requirements.
  • Use years of development experience to manage new technology trials and evaluate the trial results for deployment optimization.
  • Head the analysis of future 5G features to determine the impact to device functionality, performance and user experience.
  • Coordinate and negotiate appropriate legal agreements including NDA’s, General Purchase Agreements, and Statements of Work with multiple vendors.
  • Develop vendor selection strategies and statements of work including milestones, deliverables and payments in order to meet overall project schedules.
  • Provide technical expertise in 5G during cross-functional design reviews. Assume responsibility as the subject matter expert and single point of contact for all Verizon inquiries in the designated 5G areas.
  • Provide subject-matter expertise to evaluate performance in RF and Radio Resource Management (e.g. 3GPP 36.523, 3GPP 36.521-1, 3GPP 36.521-3) and for VZW defined test cases (e.g. Supplementary RF) as necessary.
  • Proactively look for areas to improve requirements and test plans
  • Clearly document and communicate design decisions, roadmaps and recommendations to executive management within Verizon.

What we’re looking for...

You’ll need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of work experience.
  • Six or more years of relevant work experience.

Even better if you have:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical/Electronics/Computer/RF Engineering, or related discipline.
  • Strong knowledge of RF and mmWave design principles.
  • Ability to adapt quickly to changes in business and/or strategic direction. Manage multiple priorities effectively and regularly to meet project timelines.
  • Effective leadership and people management skills.
  • Knowledge of 3GPP, GSMA, and IETF standards.
  • Ability to work independently in an unstructured and dynamic environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, organization and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to communicate complex, technical information clearly and concisely. Ability to communicate ideas and recommendations to all levels within the organization.
  • Ten or more years experience in the Telecommunications Industry with knowledge in RF systems and experience with R&D, component/handset manufacturers, network equipment manufacturers and/or mobile operators.
  • Experience of 5G/LTE RF theory.
  • Knowledge of protocol stack layers 1, 2, and 3 (PHY, MAC, RLC, PDCP, RRC, NAS, IP).
  • Experience designing to and evaluating 3GPP, GSMA and other industry standards documents.
  • Experience in new technology introduction and development.
  • Ability to take initiative and proactively solve problems before escalation.
  • Ability to work independently, efficiently and effectively under extreme time constraints and deliver results by given deadlines. Ability to multi-task several high priority initiatives simultaneously.
