What you’ll be doing...

Manager Transaction Tax Wireline Audits is a self-motivated individual responsible for effectively and efficiently managing an inventory of sales, use, utility, and gross receipts (i.e. transaction tax) audits for select Verizon wireline entities and the associated FAS 5 audit reserves with minimal supervision. This position also requires the ability to establish or maintain favorable relationships with the Transaction Tax Compliance Group, Tax Legal and the Research and Planning Group to ensure optimum minimization of costs resulting from audit closures and communications of the audit findings within the Tax Organization. The candidate should be proficient in the following skills: 1) ability to negotiate audit settlements, (2) ability to complete tax research, (3) demonstrate an understanding of audit techniques (i.e., statistical sampling), (4) an ability to think analytically and strategically,(5) be proficient with technological tools (Excel, Alteryx, etc.) in analyzing and reconciling billing and accounts payable data from various general ledger, sub-ledger and billing systems, (6) a strong knowledge of accounting for transaction taxes in accordance with FAS 5, (7) possess strong leadership and communication skills. Experience in the area of sales, use and utility taxes imposed upon telecommunications products, services, and the purchases by telecommunications companies would be beneficial.

  • Responsible for effectively and efficiently working independently on assigned Wireline sales, use and utility tax audits with minimal supervision to yield best results for Verizon.
  • Must have the experience in developing the audit package and strategy to resolve audits with taxing jurisdictions. Strong tax audit skills, research skills, strategic thinking, sound judgement, negotiation and presentation skills are critical.
  • Must be a self-motivated individual acting with a sense of urgency and sound abilities for project management associated with various deadlines.
  • Responsible for calculating, establishing and monitoring FAS 5 Reserves for Contingent Gains and Losses related to audits assigned.
  • Responsible for teaming and partnering with other tax groups in order to meet the goals of the tax department.
  • Must be a skillful and effective oral and written communicator/presenter of audit findings and recommendations to help the department remediate issues, decrease deficiencies and avoid penalties. These communications will be across Tax and to upper management.

What we’re looking for...

You'll need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of work experience.
  • Six or more years of relevant work experience.
  • Four year accounting degree.
  • Six or moreyears of tax experience with an emphasis on sales and use tax.

Even Better if you have:

  • CPA and/or Masters in Taxation.
  • A strong understanding of FAS 5.
  • Strong tax technical, research and analytical skills.
  • Strong audit and accounting skills.
  • Proficiency in technological skills.
  • Experience in handling tax audits and balancing workloads and deliverables.
  • Employee must be highly motivated and have the ability to drive assigned tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Employee must have strong written and oral communication skills to partner effectively across the tax organization as well as presentation skills and the ability to present to upper management.
