What you’ll be doing...

Verizon is in the process of modernizing our core networks to enable new, groundbreaking products and technologies. This new 'Intelligent Edge Network' leverages virtualization and software defined networking and will transform how we provide products and service, and maintain our position as the industry leader. Verizon is seeking motivated and driven Engineering professionals to support the Intelligent Edge network. In this position, you will be responsible for.”Define, engineer, and resolve network capacity requirements for Verizon's Intelligent Edge (iEN), long haul and metro transport network utilizing high capacity next generation lightwave and wave division multiplexing technologies to meet network services capacity, vulnerability, diversity and growth requirements.

Specific responsibilities and skills include:

  • Knowledge in the Ultra Long Haul, SONET, DWDM and iEN networks.
  • Perform detailed equipment engineering for network augments. This includes developing all of the specifications required for installation forces to properly install, turn-up, inventory, and configure the equipment, obtaining appropriate management approvals, issuing purchase orders, creating applicable diagrams/ drawings, and ensuring vendor delivery.
  • Ensure that work meets all applicable engineering, financial, planning, and operational standards.
  • Develop Bill of Material and place orders for network equipment, rack, and hardware requirements.
  • Define cable requirements, create cable running lists, and order all cables.
  • Order all spares required based on sparing plan or directed by capacity management.
  • Manage, input, and update central Network Inventory Database (i.e. ICON, Nautilus, CoFEE, CCP) to reflect new builds, adds, and decommissions.
  • Communicate effectively at multiple levels, from team members to executive management.
  • Analytic and technical skills and be able to work with other groups to resolve issues.
  • Leadership, self-motivation and team oriented.
  • Train and mentor junior engineers.

What we’re looking for...

You'll need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of work experience.
  • Three or more years of relevant work experience.
  • Willingness to travel.

Even better if you have:

  • A degree in engineering, networking, computer, telecommunications or relevant job-related experience.
  • Experience in Engineering and/or Installation and Testing in one (or more) of the following Transport technologies: Ciena, Cisco, Alcatel-Lucent, Nortel and Fujitsu SONET and Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) equipment platforms.
  • Experience in PON, NGPON2, FiOS and FTTP.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office Suites and drawing complex system diagrams using CAD-based software like Visio.
  • Strong interpersonal and team building capabilities.
  • Strong project planning and time management.
  • Excellent verbal, written, analytical and communication skills.
  • Excellent problem solving skills.
  • Strong knowledge with Microsoft Office.
