What you’ll be doing...

The Priority Services VoIP Engineer is responsible for translating business needs into technical solutions, and defining solutions to problems through reasoned application of telecommunications and information technologies to wireline and wireless networks. Candidate should have advanced knowledge and diverse skills in the technologies and vendors solutions to include design and architecture of the platforms and systems needed to deploy VoIP technologies in diverse technology environments. The candidate will perform the following functions:

  • Apply practical skills and experience across many application and infrastructure (operational) products, technologies, and services.
  • Develop and document comprehensive solutions for enterprise, switching, wireless, and application services. Responsibilities include design, system test and integration of networking solutions and maintain roadmap solutions.
  • Establish, implement, and enforce appropriate standards in the creation and implementation of the solution whenever project requirements would benefit from the use of standards.
  • Work closely with vendor and internal technical teams to deliver service solutions to the customer
  • Lead technical engagements promoting the use of technology, and of specific technologies, in order to achieve buy-in from the customer, vendors, and corporate technology management to create new opportunities and business relationships.
  • Mediate opposing viewpoints and negotiate equitable solutions to ensure successful and stable outcomes.
  • Define architectural roadmap to deliver the business solutions.
  • Maintain a baseline of industry knowledge to advice on technical trends and techniques applicable to the development of solution designs.
  • Design, document, analyze, and commission Priority Telecommunications Services, such as voice and data services, and ensure systems support specific customer requirements on equipment from different manufacturers, service providers and users.
  • Develop engineering proposals to define goals, identify scope, background and need, and ascertain cost of equipment, parts and services.
  • Evaluate new products and services from vendors ensuring compliance with laws, regulations, policies and procedures.
  • Prepare and interpret specifications, drawings and regulations.
  • Identify and analyze problems and needs to determine the most appropriate means of reducing, eliminating and avoiding current and future problems.
  • Monitor services to assess need for updates, upgrades, enhancements, preventive maintenance and new systems.
  • Assess performance levels of system hardware and software to project future needs, and developing short and long-terms plans for updating equipment, adding capabilities, enhancing existing systems and providing improved services.
  • Manage integrated hardware and software architecture solutions that meet performance, usability, scalability, reliability, and security needs.
  • Research and recommend technology to improve the current systems.

What we’re looking for...

You'll need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of work experience.
  • Four or more years of relevant work experience.
  • Eligibility to obtain a government sponsored security clearance.

Even better if you have:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Technology, Science, Business or related field.
  • At least five years of relevant industry experience in pertinent technologies.
  • In-depth knowledge of Voice over IP network architecture and design disciplines, operational support familiarity, previous and current extensive hands-on implementation and thorough configuration knowledge and capabilities.
  • Proficient in the use of testing and modeling techniques, such as use cases, scenario modeling, prototyping, benchmarking, and performance modeling, to describe the problem space, to size the solution and to validate that the proposed architecture addresses the business requirements.
  • Demonstrated in-depth knowledge of support and engineering design for voice and data networks at Access, Aggregation, Transport and Core applications.
  • Detailed knowledge of best practices with networks and interfaces and understanding of industry trends.
  • In depth knowledge of communications technologies including SIP, RTP, SS7 and TDM.
  • Strong understanding of service provider networking technologies, standards, and solutions including but not limited to QoS, Load Balancing and Optimization techniques.
  • General understanding of wireless solutions and technologies.
  • Ability to execute in a methodical manner to gather, document, and present specific customer requirements as well as articulate technical solutions.
  • Ability to work with senior engineers to develop architecture roadmaps.
  • Exceptional documentation skills to clearly articulate technical designs, issues and constraints, procedures, and network assessments.
  • Strong analytical and problem determination/resolution skills.
  • Ability to work alone as an individual contributor, as a technical lead and as a participant in a team environment.
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills regarding technical and non-technical concepts.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to establish professional working relationships with varying levels of both business and technical personnel.
  • Willingness to travel, up to 25%, as required by business needs.
