What you’ll be doing...

Verizon is seeking a highly motivated and talented Senior Linux Systems Administrator with expertise in systems administration, internet protocols, and network security. Successful candidates will be able to apply their expertise in the design, and implementation of cutting-edge and mission critical network systems used to detect and mitigate sophisticated threats facing Verizon and our customers. The Network Intelligence infrastructure consists of several large scale compute and storage clusters that are used to analyze petabyte scale network and security event data sets for anomalous and malicious network activity.

Job Responsibilities:

Successful candidates will have responsibility for a number of the following areas based on the unique expertise that they bring to the project.

  • Engineer and deploy appropriate network and systems solutions for data center networks.
  • Identify technology gaps to lead in the design, architecture, and implementation of appropriate solutions collaboratively.
  • Create formal guidelines, policies, and procedures to ensure smooth and error-free operations.
  • Drive relevant, strategic solutions in a highly scalable environment.
  • Maintain high availability & performance of the data center networks, systems, and other supporting infrastructure using various monitoring tools.
  • Participate in capacity planning activities and identify areas for improvements in managing network resource and inventory.
  • Contribute to research focused on the detection of tools and tactics used by modern and emerging threat actors. Use cyber intelligence information collected from multiple sources to understand the threat landscape to drive mitigating change to protect Verizon.
  • Maintain vendor relations to ensure systems and network infrastructure is current, meet design objectives, and drive technical issues to resolution.
  • Perform necessary provisioning and change management configurations on computing devices and systems.

What we’re looking for...

You'll need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of work experience.
  • Six or more years of relevant work experience.

Even better if you have:

  • A Degree.
  • Proficiency in Linux system administration.
  • Experience with VMware, Ansible, Splunk, enterprise Internet firewalls such as Palo Alto, enterprise load balancers such as F5, NFS storage, Kerberos, LDAP, fiber optic network cabling, and data center operations.
  • Scripting/coding capabilities to automate repetitive tasks or to better handle large scale administration functions.
  • UNIX systems engineering experience with a wide variety of UNIX variants.
  • Proficiency with Layer 2 Ethernet switch and VLAN configurations.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve network issues.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and replace failed server hardware.
  • Knowledge of data center fiber infrastructure.
  • Experience in data center rack management (rack and stack, cable management).
  • Experience working collaboratively with Network Engineers, Systems software developers and Administrators.
  • Experience with firewalls, load balancers, and web proxies.
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex issues related to hardware, L3/L2 deployment, application behaviors and TCP stack.
  • Knowledge of Industrial Control Systems in a data center environment.
  • Knowledge of routing and switching concepts and technologies (OSPF, BGP, PIM, MC-LAG).
