What you’ll be doing...

The Switch Technician will be responsible to managing projects, monitoring the network, and executing network changes on multiple data and telecom platforms. Additionally, the Switch Technician is responsible for the advanced installation, operation, augmentation and maintenance of the regional data network elements, ensuring network integrity and quality. These networks include, but are not limited to Nortel/ Ericsson MTX Soft Switch/ MGW, Ericsson LTE elements, Nokia Packet Gateways, Cisco and Nokia routers and multilayer switches, Alcatel-Lucent 5E switching equipment, Tellabs DACS, Fujitsu transmission. Switch Technician is expected to perform his/her duties with minimum supervision, and participate in cross-functional projects as scheduled.

Responsibilities:

  • Review documentation, MOP’s, installation and network connectivity with Engineering.
  • Complete all Work Orders and Change Orders, with the correct information, hardware and/or software.
  • Maintain accurate “Spares” hardware inventory for all Switch fixed network and peripheral platforms.
  • Work with Network Engineering for implementation of larger cross-functional Network Projects.
  • Work with Field Technicians for troubleshooting of outages and cell site issues, as well as new site turn-up and site modifications.
  • Responsible for Repair & Return shipping procedures.
  • Routine maintenance & monitoring of Switches, peripherals, HVAC equipment, -48V DC Power plants, battery plants, and inverters.
  • Responsible for the timely repair and documentation on all Trouble Tickets and CSR’s.
  • Maintain MTSO facilities including: Generators, HVAC, AC/DC Power, & Access.
  • All other duties as needed or assigned by supervisor.
  • Provide 7/24 coverage on-call rotation (Weekly).

What we’re looking for...

You'll need to have:

  • Associate’s degree or two or more years of work experience.
  • Three or more years of relevant work experience.
  • Knowledge of data transmission facilities such as OC48, T3, T1, DSO, 1G/ 10G native Ethernet, and SONET.
  • A valid Driver’s license.
  • Ability to lift 50lbs

Even better if you have:

  • A degree.
  • Certifications such as CCNA or CCNP.
  • Training in at least 3 of the following areas: data networking and communications, wireless technologies, digital communications, operating systems and applications, telecommunications, and/or power distribution.
  • Knowledge of data networking protocols including TCP/IP, OSI, OSPF, BGP, MPLS, BFD, SIP and other LAN/WAN protocols .
  • Experience with, Ericsson LTE MME/SGW/EnodeB, Alcatel 5E Switching Platforms, Nokia and Cisco Routers, Tellabs DACS, Fujitsu 4500/9500.
  • Experience using various network monitoring or performance tools such as eHealth, RTT, Fluke, Remedy, Netanalyst, Wireshark, and Prospect .
  • Good work ethic, integrity and ability to work in a team environment.
  • Ability to set priorities, work with minimum supervision and with a diverse group of professionals.
  • Ability to follow up through to completion on all assignments/projects/deadlines.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office and Outlook.
  • Knowledge in the use of electronic test equipment.
  • Experience in: UNIX, Visio, Irisview, eHealth, Protocol analyzers, and network monitoring tools.
