What you’ll be doing...

This candidate must be highly self-motivated, able to work in partnership with peer team members, provide a consultative approach to working with customers and Tier1 (Triage) and Tier2 (primarily break-fix incident and problem management). On-call duties and scheduled maintenance as is typically associated with system administration and IT maintenance.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Troubleshooting of complex issues and working within vendor support agreements to solve bugs, apply patches, and perform upgrades.
  • Provide a consultative approach and advocacy for a virtualized environment.
  • Consult on VMware/hypervisor-specific implementations and assist in the development of runbooks and documentation related to projects.
  • Assess plans and deliver timeframes for committed delivery in conjunction with project managers and peers.
  • Author automation specifications and scripts to automate systems management tasks.
  • Automate configuration management using packaged and open-source tools.
  • Automate tasks in scripting languages (Python, shell, Perl).
  • Quickly respond to customer requirements with urgency associated with a system's criticality level.
  • Respond quickly to outages and performance degradation. Act proactively where possible.
  • Consult with DBA's, peer technology domains, and our customer’s application teams for configuration, troubleshooting, capacity management, and break-fix activities.
  • Periodically compile and install open-source software.
  • Develop documentation for common activities, tasks, and mentor others.

What we’re looking for...

You'll need to have:

  • Associate’s degree or two or more years of work experience.
  • Three or more years of relevant work experience.
  • Knowledge and experience in managing VMware vSphere clusters at scale.
  • Knowledge with key VMware ecosystems tools (SRM, Turbonomics, etc.).
  • Knowledge of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5, 6, and 7 system administration.
  • Knowledge of UNIX and windows system administration concepts.
  • Knowledge of virtual system resource performance and capacity management including CPU, Memory, I/O, VDS/N1KV, DRS, VMotion, HA, reservations, affinity rules.
  • Knowledge of Netapp/EMC for both block and file storage.
  • Knowledge of IP networking and troubleshooting.
  • Knowledge of best practices for securing a compute and storage environment.
  • Knowledge with Microsoft Windows Operating Systems.
  • Knowledge with voice and call center technologies from a hosted perspective.
  • Willingness to perform off-hours work if required and willingness to work flexible schedules.
  • Willingness to travel, if needed

Even better if you have:

  • A degree.
  • Knowledge of VMware NSX.
  • Familiarity with configuration management and provisioning tools (Ansible, Puppet, Chef, etc.).
  • IP networking and troubleshooting including routing, switching, VLANS. Experience with firewalls and load balancers.
