What you’ll be doing...

The Senior Consultant/Design Engineer will deliver Enterprise and/or Telco-grade UC solutions from opportunity identification through to final project closure.

The role requires strong technical and communication skills with significant hands-on design, delivery, and transformation experience in: UCC, IPT, VoIP, IM&P, collaboration tools, audio/video/web conferencing, voice gateways, SIP/TDM trunking, SBCs, federation, IP, routing and switching and contact centres.

Responsibilities associated with the position include:

  • Planning, designing, configuring, implementing, operating, and optimising UC technologies. This will include remote or on-site:
    • Infrastructure strategy creation and roadmap development.
    • Infrastructure design and systems sizing.
    • Migration planning, risk assessments, impact analysis.
    • Implementation, configuration, testing and transformation.
    • Pre and post-deployment support.
    • Detailed troubleshooting and problem resolution.
    • Performance engineering and optimization.
    • Knowledge transfer and mentoring.
    • Test plan/strategy development.
    • Network auditing/sizing.
  • Creating and developing documentation, including detailed technical documentation and appropriate policies and procedures for assigned projects.
  • Assessing customer requirements for data and voice technology initiatives and recommending appropriate solutions.
  • Assisting with IT disaster recovery planning and testing for telecommunications and UC technologies, including data and system backup and restore functions.
  • Helping to provide a high-quality, high-availability computing and telephony/UC environment.
  • Assisting in the optimisation of technology in telecommunications/UC environment for the client's IT Services department.
  • Maintaining knowledge of existing network and applications, including new products and technologies, relating to telephony and UC products.
  • Providing technical consulting expertise to internal project teams and customers.
  • Sharing knowledge and experience through formal and informal knowledge management initiatives.
  • Proactively maintaining knowledge/awareness of existing network and applications, including new products and technologies, relating to both Cisco/Microsoft/Oracle and other UC products.

What we’re looking for...

You’ll need to have:

  • Bachelor's degree or relevant experience.
  • Experience with increased design, delivery, and transformation responsibility in an IPT/UC environment.
  • Experience designing, implementing, transforming, troubleshooting, testing, and supporting UC technologies, including:
    • IPT
    • VoIP
    • IM and Presence
    • Collaboration tools
    • Audio/Video/Web conferencing
    • SBCs
    • Voice gateways
    • SIP/TDM trunking
    • IP
    • Routing and switching
  • Experience designing and implementing SBCs.
  • Experience in voice/video/data networking, telephony IPPBX management, and voice applications.
  • Experience implementing and supporting other voice technologies, including contact centre, IVR, predictive dialer, call recording, and CTI technologies.
  • Experience in legacy telephony (e.g., PSTN, TDM, PRI, Key Systems, TDM PBX, C7).
  • Experience identifying and maintaining the voice dependencies of local and wide-area networks.
  • Large enterprise, high-availability design and implementation experience.
  • Willingness to travel up to 25%.
  • A valid driver's license.

  • A degree.
  • Expertise and experience with one or more leading manufacturer’s UC products and adjunct applications (e.g., Microsoft, Oracle, Ribbon, Audiocodes, Cisco, Avaya, Unify).
  • Detailed knowledge and understanding of protocols (e.g., SIP, H.323, QSIG, SCCP) and codec’s (e.g., G.722, G.711, G.729, H.264, Microsoft Real-time adaptive codec's (RTC).
  • Analytical, consultative, and methodical support skills, coupled with the ability to lead users and staff through business requirements and delivering business and technical solutions.
  • Manufacturer accreditations, especially:
    • Microsoft - MCSE (UC and Collabroation)
    • Cisco - CCIE, CCNP, CCNA (UC and Collaboration)
    • Oracle/Ribbon/Audiocodes - Manufacturer SBC certifications

As well, the ideal candidate for this role should have a strong background in, and hands on design and delivery of, UCC solutions using one or more of the following manufacturer technology sets (listed in order of preference):
