What you’ll be doing...

We are looking for a Sr Product Development Engineer to be part of Verizon's Multi-access Edge Computing (MEC) Solutions team whose primary responsibility will be to help with the implementation and integration of software modules for 5G and Mobile Edge Compute (MEC) proofs of concepts. Under the direction of senior team members, you will be assigned concrete tasks in the context of sprint planning and execution. You are expected to diligently manage and update assigned JIRA tasks in sync with progress and deliverables. You will be expected to be an active participant in Sprint planning and reviews. You will contribute to the development of software on relatively short time scales and will require independent, innovative thinking and ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment on a wide range of potential applications. You will have the opportunity to contribute to software architectures, new technology evaluations and contribute to Verizon’s Intellectual Property.

  • Independently contribute to the implementation and integration of software modules for 5G and MEC proofs of concepts, familiarity with cloud infrastructure offerings, participation in code reviews, collaboration with integration to define test criteria and test execution, analysis and interpretation of test results.
  • Candidate must be highly knowledgeable of the current software technology trends, have a background in software development and integration, have experience using Scrum/Agile design practices and tools, and be flexible and self-motivated.

What we’re looking for...

You’ll need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of work experience.
  • Four or more years of relevant work experience.

Even better if you have:

  • Knowledge of multiple software programming languages (e.g. C/C++, Java, Python) and operating system development (e.g. Linux, Android/iOS, RTOSs) to apply to the development of prototypes and PoCs.
  • Experience in software development using Agile/Scrum methodologies, with tools such as Jira, Confluence, Stash/Git,
  • Ability to use Linux container environments (e.g. Docker, LXCs, Kubernetes) and Linux service scale out techniques through use of microservices, Kafka and NoSQL databases (MongoDB, InfluxDB, Neo4j, etc.),
  • Eagerness to learn leading edge technologies
  • Ability to work in a dynamic environment,
  • Ability to work hands-on in a lab environment on edge compute and industrial mechatronics hardware.
  • Experience in using Linux, Windows and Mac OS operating systems, using both command-line and graphical user interfaces.
  • Experience in using Jenkins, Subversion, Git, JIRA and Confluence
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills

  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Public cloud experience (AWS, Azure, Google)
  • Virtualization infrastructure experience (OpenStack, Kubernetes)
  • Experience with PLCs, DCSs
  • Experience developing for industrial applications.
  • Good understanding of various network protocols including HTTP, HTTPS, TCP, UDP, SMTP, DNS, WebSockets.
  • Good understanding and experience with Message Brokers (Kafka, MQTT, RabbitMQ)
  • Knowledge of industrial control programming languages (e.g. Ladder Diagram, Structured Text, Function Block Diagram, etc).
