What you’ll be doing...

Verizon is in the process of modernizing our core networks to enable new, groundbreaking products and technologies. This new 'Intelligent Edge Network' leverages virtualization and software defined networking and will transform how we provide products and service, and maintain our position as the industry leader. Verizon is seeking motivated and driven engineering professionals to support the Intelligent Edge network. The Engineering Specialist position focuses on the delivery of High Bandwidth Ethernet services to Verizon’s Enterprise customer base via the company’s fiber optic network. Specifically, this position will involve creating engineering plans and designs associated with the provisioning of these critical data services. In addition, this position will involve the design of Verizon’s leading edge technology, the Intelligent Edge Network (iEN), in the Outside Plant (OSP) segment of the overall network architecture.

  • Provisioning of High Capacity (HiCap) and Ethernet customer circuits within the Core Network Engineering team of Verizon.
  • Identifying network facilities that provide paths from our central offices to the customer location. The circuit route provides a path between two terminating locations used to connect and operate a circuit (low and/or high bandwidth).
  • The circuit route is designed using TIRKS which is an inventory record-keeping and provisioning system. A Planning Design Access Code, or PDAC, is what is created by Hicap provisioning engineers to represent a unique route between two points in the network.
  • Today’s circuits are provisioned using legacy equipment via TIRKS but in the future it will involve migrations into the Intelligent Edge Network (iEN) which involves new equipment and systems as well as provisioning new service orders in the new systems.
