What you’ll be doing...

Verizon is seeking an experienced, dynamic, tenacious, talented attorney to join its Legal team supporting the Global Technology Solutions (Information Technology) organization. The ideal candidate is a technically adept and business-minded attorney with technology and product development experience, who has a deep capacity and curiosity for learning new technologies and areas of law, demonstrated good judgment, an ability to provide pragmatic, proactive day-to-day line-of-business legal support for Global Technology Solutions clients, and a proven record of building relationships and advising clients in a fast-paced, highly matrixed, collaborative environment.

Responsibilities of the position include:

  • Providing line-of-business legal support and practical, actionable guidance for clients responsible for the development, deployment, security, and maintenance of information technology and data architecture, infrastructure, inventory, applications, systems, platforms, portals, products, and services.
  • Advising on subject matter areas including: open source software, cybersecurity, data privacy, DevSecOps, public/private cloud, business process outsourcing, intellectual property ownership, software development lifecycle, digital transformation, robotic process automation, artificial intelligence/machine learning, UI/UX, data governance, and emerging technologies.
  • Working collaboratively and effectively with colleagues and clients across the company to drive technology thought leadership, technology transformation, and digital workplace evolution.
  • Getting embedded with client teams to learn and understand new technologies/products/solutions under development, and to identify, review, communicate, and resolve legal issues associated with using, adopting, or deploying new technologies, platforms, tools, and systems, and engaging with stakeholders and subject matter experts for internal and external product and service launches and go-to-market efforts.
  • Advancing best practices and processes to facilitate awareness of and compliance with applicable policies, laws, rules, and standards, such as data privacy, information security, confidentiality, access, and governance.
  • Support business and digital transformation by communicating with and helping to manage outsourced managed services vendors and contractors hired on a time-and-material basis or pursuant to a statement of work.
  • Drafting and negotiating a wide range of contracts (including technology agreements, software licenses, strategic non-disclosure agreements, customer and vendor agreements, trial agreements) to drive new initiatives with startups, technology companies, and media companies.
  • Driving efficiencies by using and updating existing legal processes and clearance workflows, and crafting practical, operable legal requirements to effectively advise on and reduce legal and business risks.
  • Assisting in fact-gathering and analysis of existing and proposed rules, regulations and laws to support public policy and regulatory efforts on emerging technology issues.

What we’re looking for...

You'll need to have:

  • JD degree and six or more years of relevant work experience.
  • Bar membership and needed licenses.
  • Five or more years of experience in-house at a technology company or in private practice handling transactions or litigation relating to technology and software development.
  • Willingness to travel.

Even better if you have:

  • B.S. in electrical, computer, software or other engineering, or computer science, or B.A. or B.S. degree with extensive technology and software experience and fluency.
  • Experience with export control regulations, implementing security controls, federal, state, local, and international privacy.
  • Experience with cyber security and data breach laws, rules, and standards (including NIST standards and GDPR compliance), telecommunications regulations, product development, intellectual property law, industry consortia and/or marketing and consumer law.
  • Experience advising senior business and technical leaders.
