What you’ll be doing...

We are looking for a qualified Senior Hardware Engineer to join our Vehicle Interop Team that will help us continue to build out our Connected Vehicle products.

This position requires a strong understanding of Vehicles CAN Bus protocol, and the ability to engineer both hardware and firmware components, allowing access to vehicle CANs, especially via the OBD-II port. Also, this position requires hands-on experience in scan & record vehicle data.

This position will require coordination with product managers and program managers. Candidate should be self-motivated, should be able to work under minimal supervision, and be able to apply critical thinking skills to complex problems.

Responsibilities associated with the position include:

  • Assisting the team with integrating hardware and firmware to process vehicle telematic data, both local and remote.
  • Locating Vehicle CAN bus, OBDII port, scanning, and recording data from vehicles using specific tools.
  • Finding out necessary PIDs or Broadcast messages to extract necessary data from vehicle.
  • Actively injecting both diagnostic and arbitrary packets to CAN bus.
  • Validating extracted data and indexing it into databases servers.
  • Collaborating with other departments, as you test, developing and evaluating firmware changes for custom and off-the-shelf products.
  • Testing, developing, modifying, and optimizing prototyping and production quality embedded firmware.
  • Ensuring that both hardware and firmware meets or exceeds the key success metrics for the project.
  • Working on products with wireless connectivity, RFID, Bluetooth, 2G, 3G and 4G LTE.
  • Occasional Electronic design using schematic and PCB designs tools.
  • Other tasks defined by manager or supervisor.

What we’re looking for...

You’ll need to have:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or relevant work experience.
  • Engineering work experience.
  • Experience performing in-vehicle and bench testing utilizing analyzers debugging tools.
  • Knowledge of M2M communication in the IoT field; experience with communication through the GSM 2G/3G/4G/LTE networks.
  • Direct experience with hardware, coupled with experience working with Analyzers and Oscilloscopes.
  • Working knowledge of hardware circuit theory, architectures, and electronic hardware found in micro-controller-based systems.
  • Experience in electronic design using schematic and PCB designs tools.
  • Knowledge of operating system development (e.g. Linux, Android, RTOSs) to apply to the development of prototypes and PoCs.

Even better if you have:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electronics or Computer Engineering, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Two or more years of professional experience working with Vehicle CAN bus protocols (e.g., OBD-II, J1939).
  • Five or more years of engineering work experience.
  • The ability to interface with vehicle diagnostics and communication systems (e.g., CAN, K-Line, LIN Bus).
  • Hardware engineering skills in OBD-II access tools (e.g., able to use Vehicle Spy, Kvaser, Vector CANalyzer).
  • Familiarity with applicable industry standards (e.g., ISO 15765, ISO 9141, J1939, J1708).
  • Working knowledge with Electric Vehicles.
  • Fluency in C/C+ programming langauges.
  • Familiarity with embedded hardware systems design and development.
  • Familiarity with common communications protocols (e.g., UART, SPI, I2C, CAN, USB).
  • Experience with Atlassian suite of tools (e.g. Jira, Bit Bucket, Confluence).
  • Experience using simulation tools such as MATLAB or Octave.
  • Fluency in English (verbal and written).
  • The ability to solve problems, determine the root cause of technical issues, and implement effective solutions quickly.
  • The ability to deal with complexity, while taking a self-directed approach to solve problems both independently as well as part of a team.
  • The ability to solve complex problems creatively in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment.
  • Demonstrated resourcefulness and ability to adapt to a variety of situations.
