What you’ll be doing...

As a member of the Network Planning Standards team, you will be responsible for supporting the RAN network design from a Standards perspective. The RAN architecture will deliver demanding ultra-low latency, massive MTC connections and high throughput performance requirements to meet customer experience.

  • Ensuring 4G and 5G networks Standards are defined and meet next generation features requirements and performance.
  • Analyzing and driving Verizon priorities, strategic interests and objectives.
  • Analyzing and designing RAN architecture layers (physical, signaling, protocol and above) that will optimize networks to support innovative applications.
  • Developing excellent working relationships with Network Planning, Device Technology, Network Operations Teams, Data Performance, System Performance, and Engineering and Operations.
  • Participating and leading the evolution and next generation related industry standard meetings and forums for Verizon.
  • Partnering with internal organizations to author technical requirements and standards forum contributions.
  • Managing complex technical projects, including forming leading industry standard meetings and forums, assessing start-up companies, and partnering with internal organizations to finalize Core architecture.
  • Evaluating and authoring 3GPP contributions and driving Verizon positions and alignment with operators and vendors.
  • Supporting the development of a 3+ year technology strategic view on RAN/Core, including Voice, IoT, V2X, strategic Verticals, data and video.

What we’re looking for...

You’ll need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of work experience.
  • Six or more years of relevant work experience.
  • Willingness to travel 25%-40% of the time (including international).

Even better if you have:

  • BS, MS, or a PhD degree in Electrical/Computer Engineering.
  • End-to-end 4G wireless network experience.
  • Expertise in Wireless 4G/5G Core networks (EPC and IMS Core) with video, voice, TCP/IP optimization experience.
  • Expertise with RAN Architecture Framework and RF Channel model simulations.
  • Experience leading and driving technical initiatives across different teams internally and externally.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of CPRI and Open Ran Forums (e.g. O-RAN).
  • Knowledge of Cloud Apps and Cloud Aware software implementations with the understanding of Cloud technologies and ecosystems DOCKERS, Elasticity Manager, etc.
  • Proficiency with video compression, streaming, and video related protocols such as IPTV, VOD, MPEG, network protocols, analysis, and video compression/audio codec standards.
  • Knowledge of CDN, Edge and Transparent Caching.
  • Skills in developing forward-looking next gen network architecture and strategy.
