What you’ll be doing...

The Verizon Automation Engineering team is part of the Transformation and Innovation department under Core Network Engineering. The team is responsible for creating automations to give network engineers the ability to perform their tasks more efficiently and effectively, and at far greater scale. In support of this effort, the Automation Engineering team has built the Automation Services Platform for Networks (ASPN), development and staging environments, and an Agile development practice with CI/CD devOps capability. We are seeking a new Principal Software developer for the Automation Engineering team, whose responsibilities will be:

  • Provide expert software development skill and experience toward developing automation for the Verizon core network.
  • Work with Automation Architect to transition advanced projects from research/requirements phase into solution design and development phase.
  • Work collaboratively with Core Network engineering, Network Planning, SDN planning, and Verizon Information Technology groups in order to bring value to the business
  • Work collaboratively with product owners and stakeholders to ensure that development meets requirements as closely as possible.
  • Work in a leadership role on a scrum team. Principal Developer is responsible for project leadership, scheduling, and delegation of development activities.
  • Provide leadership, guidance, and support to other automation developers
  • Provide executive level briefings on the status of automation development projects.

What we’re looking for...

We are looking for a networking or software engineer with strong software engineering and development experience. You should have an understanding of automation technologies, network engineering, software engineering, cloud and virtualization, and all associated technologies.

You'll need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of work experience.
  • Six or more years of relevant work experience.
  • Willingness to travel.

Even better if you have:

  • A degree.
  • BSCS, BSEE or equivalent experience and MCSE MSEE certifications.
  • Experience with software engineering practices.
  • Knowledge of Node.JS, MongoDB, ExpressScript, Angular (MEAN stack),Java,HTML, javascript, PHP, SQL database,Netconf, Yang,Python.
  • Experience with Ansible, Ansible Tower.Network Services Orchestrator (NSO; formerly Tail-f),Itential Automation Platform (IAP; formerly Pronghorn),IP Networking, v4/v6, BGP, OSPF, MPLS.
  • Experience with Fiber Optic transport technologies, Cisco IOS/NX-OS/IOS-XR, JUNOS CLI , Nokia SR-OS, Wireless cellular 4GLTE and 5G technologies.
  • Knowledge of Linux and Open stack Cloud technologies and Micro services architecture. Jenkins / other Testing methodologies.
  • Experience with API development/integration.
  • Experience with software development life cycle (SDLC) and Agile SCRUM methodology.
