What you’ll be doing...
You will be joining the Verizon Security Assistance Team (VSAT), a 24x7x365 operation responsible for ensuring that all legal demands served on the company are handled confidentially and in compliance with all company policies and applicable laws. In addition to responding to legal requests, VSAT-N is also responsible for ensuring CALEA compliance and providing technical assistance 24x7x365. As the System Administrator & Project Manager you are an individual contributor who is great at balancing competing priorities and driving multiple projects to completion in a time sensitive and ever changing operational environment, successful working independently and as part of a team, highly analytical and skilled in system administration and security. You enjoy a varied and flexible work schedule to meet the demands of the operations and occasional travel for training and/or meetings. Some of your responsibilities are:
- Implementing/deploying and maintaining servers and backup devices as well as monitoring interfaces in production and test environments.
- Performing OS (RHE) minimization and server hardening according to company and project requirements.
- Monitoring system performance and utilization to ensure 24x7x365 operation is seamless by proactively addressing trends.
- Documenting, reviewing and testing changes for upgrades.
- Performing upgrades on applications and supporting other application related administrative tasks.
- Providing timely and accurate updates/notifications to both management and other affected groups or organizations during major, critical and catastrophic system events.
- Performing integration testing, user acceptance and regression, to include developing appropriate test plans and validating that the results meet the applicable CALEA standard(s).
- Managing multiple projects simultaneously from inception to implementation for system upgrades, enhancements, new products/services and/or new technologies to ensure CALEA compliance.
- Providing technical and/or analytical support to one or more work units.
- Working varying shifts, including overnight, to apply patches, perform upgrades or conduct testing.
- Supporting 24x7x365 operation, on-call responsibilities.
- Traveling as needed, 25% or less, to perform duties or attend meetings/training.
What we’re looking for...
You'll need to have:
- Bachelor's degree or four or more years ofwork experience.
- Six or more years of relevant work experience.
- Four or more years of system administration experience including Unix/Linux environments.
- Two or more years of system/application integration testing.
- Interpretive programming language experience.
- Eligibility to apply for and obtain Department of Justice (DoJ) security clearance.
Even better if you have:
- Bachelor's degree in telecommunications, computer science, or other telecom related discipline.
- Cisco CCNA or above.
- Juniper JNCIA or above.
- Proficiency in compiled languages such as, Java, C, C++.
- Three or more years of experience with fundamental packet data concepts; TCP/IP and UDP, routing, basic LAN/WAN network connectivity, firewall and DNS
- Secret or Top Secret DoJ clearance
- Experience with CALEA standards and mediation functions.
- Two or more years of experience in project management.
- Experience in virtualization administration; OpenStack.
