What you’ll be doing...

The Outside Plant Engineer will be responsible for the documentation of physical fiber paths across the One Fiber Market. You will assist in the management of the inventory of fiber network through database tracking of fiber routes, fiber enclosures, fiber optic cable, conduit and demand point’s list data.

  • Using Fiber Inventory Management (FIM) Tool & Google Earth Pro to document routes for underground and aerial fiber optic cable in private and public right of ways from both desktop reviews and construction as-built.
  • Viewing aerial imagery, websites and other documentation to locate cell towers, customer sites, easements to assist the Engineering team.
  • Ensuring fiber optic database is current and accurate by inputting data regarding location of fibers and fiber enclosures into the Fiber Inventory data management system.
  • Participating in design and review of new Fiber Mapping enhancements and integrations.
  • Interfacing and professionally communicating with Management and colleagues in Engineering, Pricing, OSP Third Party Engineering & Construction Vendor, Project Management, Network Engineering, Finance and Accounting, among others under tight timelines.

While you work well independently, you are also a great team player and enjoy leading colleagues and coordinating efforts to ensure best outcomes. No stranger to a fast-paced environment, you manage multiple assignments and competing priorities while staying focused on important deadlines. As a strong communicator, you can quickly build relationships with a diverse range of people and explain complex technical issues in a way that everyone can understand.

You'll need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree or one or more years of work experience.
  • Experience in Outside plant engineering, permitting and ROWs.
  • Knowledge in Splicing and testing, GIS system and NCDOT processes and FTTP build.
  • Willingness to travel.

Even better if you have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or technical/science/mathematics or in a related field.
  • Experience in reviewing CAD drafts.
  • Experience in designing and understanding a splice diagram.
  • Ability to work independently or in the field with limited supervision while in the field.
  • Experience with design additions, upgrades, repairs and enhancements.
  • Experience handling large scale complex projects and manage vendor relationships.
  • Experience selecting pricing solutions based on the most effective, efficient, and timely design.
  • Experience with Outlook, Word, Excel, Visio, AutoCAD and G-Suite Applications.
  • Experience with working application of engineering systems and databases such as VENUE, CoFEE, SiteTraker, Tableau, VCCP, Cheetah, OAS.
