What you’ll be doing...

The Verizon Network Detection and Response threat research team is responsible for analyzing current and historical customer network traffic (PCAPs) to identify malicious activity. Threat analysts create new detections and IOCs for product ingestion from internal data, internal research as well as external research reports.

The Threat Intel Engineer will have the following responsibilities:

  • Create and maintain tools the threat research team will use to mine and analyze network traffic PCAPs and metadata.
  • Create reports and analysis of network PCAP data and metadata for Verizon customers and/or other Verizon groups.
  • Interface with product engineering and data science teams to manage features, bug fixes, and/or improvements to align efforts with threat team requirements.
  • Create and review network detection recommendations to identify malicious activity in customer network traffic data.

What we’re looking for...

You will need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of work experience.
  • Four or more years of relevant work experience.

Even better if you have:

  • A Degree.
  • Experience using AWS services like S3, Athena, and/or EMR/EC2.
  • Experience working in containerized environments, and with well-known community stacks like ELK and Splunk.
  • Advanced written and oral communication skills; able to tell a story with complex data, including visualizations.
  • Familiarity with software development lifecycle and principles, able to discuss the pros and cons of using different design patterns to address different issues.
  • Experience working with and maintaining databases.
  • Experience with most of the following, Python, SQL, Scala, Go, and/or Rust.
  • Experience with reporting mechanisms like Jupyter and Rmarkdown, Grafana, Shiny and/or Prometheus.
  • Experience with R statistical computing and graphics language.
  • Experience with streaming systems such as Kafka or RabbitMQ.
