What you’ll be doing...

As part of the Cloud Engineering and Enablement team, this role will be implementing an enterprise wide Kubernetes platform and a simple/automated Cloud adoption to containers platform to reduce expenses as part of the IT department’s mission.You will be a leader in the CI/CD process providing technical guidance and direction for implementation, modernization, enhancements and management ofthe Kubernetes/Docker CaaS enterprise wide environments. You will have autonomous control over day-to-day activities allocated to the team as part of agile development of new services.

  • Programming and orchestrating the deployment of feature sets into the Kubernetes Container as a Service platform along with building Docker containers via a fully automated CI/CD pipeline utilizing Jenkins, Ansible, AWS CloudFormation, Artifactory Git, and Bitbucket.

  • Provisioning and configuring EKS as infrastructure as code using CFT, Ansible, etc.

  • Building and configuring Kubernetes-based infrastructure, Core-DNS, Kube Proxy, Ingress, etc.

  • Automating the EKS dataplane Kubelet and other add on components upgrades.

  • Automating the build of containerized systems with CI/CD tooling, Helm charts, and more.

  • Integrating FluentD with Elastic Search, Redshift, Splunk.

  • Troubleshooting FluentD configuration issues or any other logging issues in EKS.

  • Managing deployments and rollbacks of applications.

  • Implementing monitoring and metrics with Prometheus.

  • Troubleshooting and optimizing containerized workload deployments for clients.

  • Automating operational tasks and assisting in the transition to service ownership models.

  • Collaborating across project teams to simplify and improve software lifecycle processes.

  • Installing and maintaining Twistlock vendor product upgrades.

  • Evaluating technical options for meeting user needs and ensuring that system requirements are identified, prioritized, and incorporated in an effective, efficient manner.

  • Performing POC (Proof of Concept) technical evaluations for new technologies for use in the Cloud.

  • Setting technical direction and determining work priorities based on interactions with the Cloud Architecture teams, the Cloud and Software Vendors and the Verizon Application teams.

  • Communicating with management and executive leadership to ensure the team’s goals and priorities align with the department.

  • Leading problem resolution for business impacting failures and driving the resolution to meet platform service level objectives. This includes assembling resources from existing team members and engaging other engineering resources from peer teams in order to restore service disruptions.

  • Deciding upon the recovery method, establishing the recovery plan and to driving/implementing the recovery plan for the affected platform during the crisis bridge.

  • Performing detailed root cause analysis involving the necessary resources.

What we’re looking for...

You’ll need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of work experience.

  • Six or more years of relevant work experience.

Even better if you have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science/Engineering or Master’s degree in a related field.

  • Advanced expertise in large containerized computing environments utilizing Kubernetes with Docker containers for a large IT enterprise wide environment.

  • Expert knowledge and experience implementing/supporting Kubernetes.

  • Strong knowledge of scripting and automation programming -- languages like Ruby, Python, Perl, BASH.

  • Strong knowledge of Configuration management tools like Ansible.

  • Experience leveraging and managing CI/CD toolchain products like Jira, STASH, Git, Bitbucket, Artifactory, and Jenkins.

  • Expert level AWS EKS and Kubernetes engineering.

  • Seven or more years of experience on Server and Cloud Virtualization technologies.

  • Institutional experience and knowledge in Public, Private, and Hybrid Cloud computing environments including the integration of compute technologies.

  • Familiarity with twistlock or any container security products.

  • Expert knowledge with CentOS, Alpine or other Linux derivatives.

  • Strong knowledge of Public Cloud architectures, configurations, services, and solutions (Amazon Web Services Cloud Formation, EC2, ELB, S3, ASG, Cloudwatch).

  • Knowledge in AWS services - S3, Kinesis, Redshift, Elastic search.

  • Strong understanding of Application Architectures, Microservices design,12 factor applications.

  • Experience with Datadog, Prometheus, or other monitoring solutions.

  • Knowledge of AWS EKS or Google GKE.

  • Knowledge in Network and storage engineering.

  • Expert knowledge of information systems concepts, system administration, and cloud platforms.

  • Excellent knowledge of system design and hardware at an enterprise level.

  • Strong technical/analytical and interpersonal skills.

  • A problem-solver with strong decision making skills and ability to work under pressure.

  • Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA) certification.

  • AWS Certified Solutions Architect Certification or any other AWS Certifications.

  • Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA) or other Kubernetes/Docker Certification.
