What you’ll be doing...

The Verizon Corporate Information Security (CIS) organization securely enables the business by protecting assets and information across Verizon networks, infrastructure and applications. CIS integrates cybersecurity governance, policies, technologies and operations across Verizon, and works to incorporate security into the design of technology systems and services.

The Verizon Business Group Information Security Office (VBG ISO) organization ensures the confidentiality, integrity and availability of technology assets and information across the VBG networks, systems and applications. VBG ISO integrates cyber security governance, policies, technologies and operations across VBG, and works to incorporate security into the design of technology systems, services and communications.

We are looking for a HIPAA Security Assessor to join our team. The HIPAA Security Office manages the security compliance obligations with respect to HIPAA for the company. This includes completing HIPAA Security risk assessments, product reviews, conformance audits, annual training, and numerous other duties. Security assessments and audits often result in findings that pose a risk to the company. It is the responsibility of Verizon personnel (either from the product team or operations team) to design and implement a safeguard to close the finding and ensure the risk is eliminated or at least reduced.

  • Project Management - Manage security risk assessments and audits

  • Remediation Tracking and Support - Manage remediation and closure of findings

  • Audits - Travel and conduct security audits as necessary

  • Training - develop training materials including but not limited to annual compliance training

  • Special Projects - complete special projects as assigned by management

  • Manage risk assessment projects and remediation projects which includes working with security consultants and assessment firms to schedule site visits, conference calls with subject matter experts, and create documentation/tools for tracking purposes.

  • Conduct audits and risk assessments.

  • Interface with members of Verizon’s Legal, HR, Operations, IT and product management groups.

  • Work closely with the Privacy office and Operations.

  • Assist with developing content for training modules on conducting security risk assessments.

  • Lead and manage remediation projects with teams responsible for closing identified findings.

  • Complete reviews of evidence provided to close gaps identified in audits and security control assessments and make recommendations to the business and leadership.

What we’re looking for...

You’ll need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of work experience.

  • Four or more years of relevant work experience.

  • Experience with HIPAA Security, Information Security Controls, and auditing practices.

Even better if you have:

  • Working knowledge of corporate security policy and all other relevant information security policies.

  • Experience conducting audits and managing projects.

  • Experience with PCI, ISO 27000 and SOC Audits.

  • General security auditing and remediation knowledge and experience.

  • Strong organizational and communications skills.

  • Experience with Sharepoint, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word and/or other tools provided by the company to facilitate security audits.

  • Certifications: CISSP, CISA, CHSP, CRISC or ability to obtain within 12 months of hire.
