What you’ll be doing...

Verizon is looking for an experienced, highly motivated attorney with expertise in software-centered legal issues and a proven track record of handling complex legal matters with minimal oversight to serve as Staff Counsel in its New Business Incubation group.You will provide support on diverse legal initiatives, including wide-ranging contract and operational support and identification and remediation of legal and compliance risks. This position will report to NBI’s General Counsel and will be based in either Morristown, NJ, or Dulles, VA.

  • Draft, review, and negotiate customer, vendor, and partnership agreements.
  • Provide advice and counsel to the NBI team and its portfolio businesses and competencies, including major initiatives and implementation of processes needed to develop and launch new products and systems deployments.
  • Ensure compliance with all laws, regulations and contractual commitments.
  • Develop and draft company policies and develop and implement associated processes for compliance
  • Maintain excellent working relationships with NBI clients, Verizon legal colleagues, and other internal stakeholders while enforcing legal requirements.
  • Proactively identify and mitigate any areas of risk.
  • Advise business leaders on legal matters impacting the business.

What we’re looking for...

You haveinitiative, judgment, and an eye for detail, andare capable of adroitly managing multiple competing priorities in a very fast-paced and dynamic environment. Exceptionally strong written and oral communication skills and ability to maintain collaborative relationships with business stakeholders in a matrixed environment.

You’ll need to have:

  • JD degree and six or more years of relevant work experience.
  • Bar membership and needed licenses.
  • Eight or more years of recent, relevant, proven legal experience with a major law firm and/or in-house.

Even better if you have:

  • Experience with SaaS industries.
  • Experience with “living labs,” proofs of concepts and similar arrangements.
  • Experience with and proficiency in location based services.
  • Experience reviewing, drafting, and negotiating complex contracts and statements of work, developing responses to proposals, and supporting internal sales clients.
  • Experience with start ups.
  • Proven ability to professionally manage time, prioritize multiple responsibilities, communicate both written and orally and process a high volume of work in a timely and accurate manner with a high attention to detail.
  • Proven ability to exercise sound judgment and work independently and autonomously, as well as part of a team.
  • Proven ability to provide legal analysis and counsel for complex transactions.
  • Proven ability to spot problems and develop and lead implementation of appropriate and creative solutions.
  • Proficient computer skills, including working knowledge of GSuite and Microsoft Office Suite (e.g., Word, Excel).
  • Demonstrated ability to handle extremely sensitive and confidential information.
