What you’ll be doing...

You’ll join the team responsible for supporting the nation’s largest, most reliable network. As a Transmission Network Engineer, you’ll respond to customer troubles, ensuring that they are resolved quickly and efficiently. You’ll also take proactive steps to improve our processes, coach team members, and help our customers understand the benefits of our many automation tools. Your role will be critical to ensure we’re able to exceed customer expectations and keep improving every day.

  • Handling customer issues based on assigned tickets.
  • Enlisting other repair organizations or escalating, when necessary, to problem solve.
  • Detailing and tracking issues, and keeping customers updated regarding the status of their issues.
  • Managing the ticket bucket and call queues.
  • Monitoring quality through evaluation of tickets and calls.

You understand and like working in a 24x7x365 operations support environment, which requires flexibility, strong communications skills, and outstanding customer service. You thrive in a fast-paced environment where you can you your troubleshooting expertise to make us even better.

You’ll need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree or years of relevant work experience.
  • A knowledge of major transmission platforms to include PDH/SDH/OTN or DWDM transmission systems.
  • Knowledgeof performance monitoring to identify performance issues and network degrades.
  • Experience using event and historical logs to help identify chronic and historical issues.
  • Knowledgeof protection schemes.

Even better if you have:

  • Knowledge of various applications, protocols and standards including but not limited to PDH, SDH, OTN, DWDM, Ethernet over SDH, Ethernet includinglayer 2 protocols, leased lines, private lineand switched Ethernet services
  • Experience troubleshooting WAN solutions/access circuits to include; first line diagnostics to identify and isolate alarms and conditions for a circuit failure.
  • Knowledge and experience of any of the following vendor's equipment : Ciena, Fujitsu, Nortel, Overture.
  • Experience in a client-facing role.
  • Knowledge of the following equipment: Ciena 6500, Ciena 5400, Ciena Core Director, Ciena 5160, Fujitsu 9500, Fujitsu 7120, Fujitsu CDS, Overture 1400.
