What you’ll be doing...

The Engineering, Planning and Service enablement team is seeking a passionate engineer who would enjoy standardizing system operations including SOE, SRE, disaster recovery and security. You will be collaborating with teams to implement technologies and processes to achieve a required level of confidence that software systems and services function in a secure manner including analyzing the security of new or existing software. You will help build a meaningful engineering discipline, combining software and systems to develop creative engineering solutions to operations problems. Much of our support and software development focuses on optimizing existing systems, building infrastructure and reducing work through automation.

You must be able to establish relationships and work with managers, SMEs at all levels without supervision. You must be able to articulate the problem statement and openly bring up challenges, roadblocks and impediments, negotiate, influence and drive solutions. The work is intense, fast-moving and highly impactful; but most importantly fun and rewarding for those with passion for technologies.

  • Drive reliability, performance and stability of the platforms across engineering, planning and service fulfillment applications.
  • Build and drive adoption of high availability and disaster recovery in all critical systems and infrastructure.
  • Work with development teams throughout the software life cycle ensuring stable software releases.
  • Have a passion for monitoring and automation using Catchpoint, New Relic, Grafana and other AI OPs tools.
  • Improve reliability, quality, and time-to-market.
  • Measure and optimize system performance, with an eye towards improving end user/customer experience.
  • Gather and analyze metrics from both operating systems and applications to assist in performance tuning and fault finding.
  • Create sustainable systems and services through automation and uplifts.
  • Be able to work across large number of teams to drive standardization.

What we’re looking for...

You'll need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of work experience.
  • Six or more years of relevant work experience.
  • Six years of experience minimum (development or operations).
  • Three plus years of experience in building or operating cloud-native applications in private & public cloud.
  • Willingness to travel up to 25% or less.

Even better if you have:

  • Bachelor of Science in related field, or equivalent experience and training.
  • Master’s degree (preferably in computer science or engineering)
  • Three or more years of experience with Machine Learning and/or Data Analytics.
  • One year experience as a Full Stack (Database, backend, microservices, front end) developer.
  • Experience with leading edge cloud technologies which will drive 5G Core (Kubernetes, Docker, etc.)
  • Communication skills and be able to mentor and educate others on industry trends related to system operations.
  • Ability to drive national standards with the Network user community of engineers.
  • Problem solving, critical thinking, and interpersonal skills - Lead by example to empower and challenge the team to deliver their best.
  • Ability to drive vendors for new features, solutions, and out-of-the-box thinking.
  • Experience mentoring engineers.
  • Written and oral skills.
  • General knowledge of Network Systems applications, how they acquire data, and how it serves our users.
  • Troubleshooting skills to identify and mitigate difficult and complex technical problems.
  • Previous experience using version control systems (SVN, GIT, STASH, etc.)
  • Previous experience with technical documentation.
  • Standards body contributions, industry publications, or industry presentations focused on Networks or Machine Learning.
  • Communicate best practices for DevOps / SRE principles.
