What you’ll be doing...

Verizon seeks a qualified cybersecurity attorney with experience supporting Federal and State and Local contracts to join its Public Sector legal team in Ashburn, Virginia. This position will report to the Managing Associate General Counsel responsible for Public Sector compliance, and will be responsible for a wide range of duties related to Verizon’s Public Sector cybersecurity compliance activities. You will interface with key stakeholders throughout the organization, assist with compliance activities, interpret contract terms (including cybersecurity terms), and assist with incident response. You will manage multiple projects in a dynamic environment is critical, and develop key relationships and maintain a visible presence within Verizon’s Public Sector organization.

  • Provide legal advice and counsel on a broad spectrum of Public Sector cybersecurity compliance issues, including training, contract compliance, remediation, and incident response.
  • Keep current on federal and state and local cybersecurity requirements, issues, statutes, regulations, and judicial decisions.
  • Monitor and advise on implementation of evolving government cybersecurity rules and frameworks, including the newly created Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC).
  • Provide advice to Public Sector Product team on product readiness for FedRAMP accreditation.
  • Review proposals and advise the Public Sector Sales and support teams on cybersecurity requirements.

What we’re looking for...

You'll need to have:

  • JD degree and six or more years of relevant attorney work experience.
  • Bar membership in good standing and needed licenses.
  • Thorough understanding of cybersecurity rules and frameworks, including FISMA, FedRAMP, CJIS, DoD RMF, NIST 800-53, 800-37, 800-137 and government agency and state specific requirements.
  • Willingness to travel.

Even better if you have one or more of the following

  • Excellent drafting, negotiating, and oral and written communication skills.
  • Outstanding academic credentials.
  • Experience managing cybersecurity or technology projects.
  • Any of the following certifications: CISM (Certified Information Security Manager), CompTIA Security+, CISSP (Certified Information Systems Security Professional), CIPP (Certified Information Privacy Professional), or PMP (Project Management Professional).
