What you’ll be doing...

The Verizon Corporate Information Security (CIS) organization securely enables the business by protecting assets and information across Verizon networks, infrastructure and applications. CIS integrates cybersecurity governance, policies, technologies and operations across Verizon, and works to incorporate security into the design of technology systems and services.

The Verizon IR team is a group of full-time security engineers & analysts who collect, analyze and act upon information from an incident. They are the focal point of the incident, and are responsible for communicating with other stakeholders within Verizon and external parties such as legal counsel, law enforcement, affected customers, etc.

The Cyber Exercise Planner role is a position providing an opportunity to work in a fast paced collaborative environment defending Verizon from current and future cyber threats. This position plays a critical role in Verizon’s enterprise computing defense. Exercise Planners must be agile, willing to learn and teach others, and able to think outside of the box in order to operate effectively in an ever changing threat landscape.

Responsibilities:

  • Provides the overall management, development, and Subject Matter Expertise for Cyber exercises
  • Coordinate, facilitate, and support the planning, designing, execution and evaluation of Cyber Exercises in accordance with the Cyber Exercise Plan (CEP)
  • Research and incorporating real-world scenarios and emerging threats into training and exercise events
  • Provides leadership for all aspects of project management across the four phases of the exercise planning cycle (plan, design, conduct, and assess) to include scheduling meetings, reserving venues, facilitating discussions, and providing senior management project updates
  • Coordinate with key stakeholders across the Business Units to develop tailored exercise scenarios that achieve key business, technology, and cyber incident response objectives.
  • Conduct post-exercise after-action reporting and assessment which captures Lessons Learned (LL), establish corrective actions with the Business Unit sponsor and design future exercises to validate improvements.
  • Attend planning conferences to establish execution events, time-lines and communication requirements. Participates in and directly supports execution of planned exercises by developing scenario events and acting as white cell participants.
  • Demonstrate the TTP’s and concepts in both Defensive Cyber Operations and Offensive Cyber Operations.
  • Maintains awareness of current and developing cyber threats, tactics, procedures, and vulnerabilities that have the potential to impact Verizon.
  • Communicates (written and oral) implementation plans to senior leaders
  • Develops and provides cross functional exercise design and execution for Threat Management Center (TMC) teams and support Business Unit teams.
  • Develops reports, briefings, and recommendations to improve exercise and training efficiency and effectiveness, and identification of shortfalls and gaps.
  • Excellent writing skills and ability to communicate effectively
  • Provides leadership/mentorship to junior level employees

What we’re looking for...

You’ll need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of work experience.
  • Four or more years of relevant work experience.
  • Four or more years of experience performing cyber exercise support, including exercise role players, exercise network support, data capture and reporting; and cyber war gaming, and table top exercise (TTX) support.
  • Experience with exercise development, design, conduct, and analysis.

Even better if you have:

  • A degree in cyber security, physical security, emergency management, or other relevant discipline.
  • Familiarity with Homeland Security Exercise and Evaluation Program (HSEEP) methodology.
  • Familiarity with the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Cybersecurity Framework.
  • Relevant Certification (A+, Network+, Security+, CISSP, GCIH, GCFA, GCFE, GNFA, GREM) or willingness to obtain within twelve months.
  • Information Assurance or Cyber Experience in the Telecommunications industry.
  • Experience working in a Security Operations Center (SOC) with focus on Computer Network Defense (CND).
  • Experience executing various Incident Response Frameworks and Handling Procedures..
  • Experience and knowledge of cyber risks and threats related to cyber attackers.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills along with the ability to work in a highly collaborative environment.
  • Ability to exhibit initiative, follow-up and follow through with commitments.
  • Strong relationship skills and collaborative style to enable success across multiple partners.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
