What you’ll be doing...

The Wireless Network Management Center (WNMC) is seeking an extremely motivated Engineer III to join our team. As a part of a highly visible team, you are accountable for ensuring high network availability and attainment of service levels. The WNMC operates 24x7 to provide continuous management and support of the wireless network. An Engineer III must be willing to work any shift.

  • Apply a broad awareness of surveillance techniques to monitor a variety of data types across global networks and report out on customer impact.
  • Perform triage, fault isolation, and remediation of Verizon Wireless’ voice and data network events.
  • Manage and communicate network outages in a timely and effective manner to external teams by communicating technical details and status to customer service centers, technical support organizations, vendors, and executive management teams during network events and major outages.
  • Apply an in-depth technical knowledge to help resolve complex issues by providing solutions in a straightforward manner.
  • Actively build relationships with Field Engineers and Management.
  • Partner with automation teams to analyze current processes to identify opportunities for improvement and automation.
  • Identify system constraints and limitations, recommend solutions to enhance overall performance for NMC engineers via automation.
  • Works with more senior-level technicians to gain greater working knowledge of Technology network topology, services, and processes

What we’re looking for...

You’ll need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of work experience
  • Three or more years of relevant work experience.
  • Experience in one or more of the following fields: telecommunications, network operations, and/or maintenance.
  • Knowledge of LTE networks and 1X to 5G technologies.
  • Knowledge of Cloud and Virtualized solutions (OpenStack/VMWare).
  • Knowledge of all major cellular switching, sub-systems, data networks, and power systems.
  • Working knowledge of basic telephony and network architecture.
  • Working knowledge of switching fundamentals.

Even better if you have one or more of the following:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Sciences, Software Engineering, or Electrical Engineering.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and adjust to priority changes.
  • Commitment to quality and the motivation and ability to work well in a team environment.
  • Working knowledge of the following technologies and/or platforms: Advanced voice switch/cell infrastructure experience including Alcatel Lucent, Motorola, Nortel, and Ericsson.
  • Experience in Data elements including Routers (Regional Agg., E911, EDN, WDN, IPBH), switches (EDN, IPBH,) MLS, PDSN, ATM network.
  • Experience in Digital communications including DS1, DS3, Fiber, and Microwave.
  • Experience in Operating systems including UNIX and Windows.
  • Experience in Computer support including PC hardware and configurations and troubleshooting.
  • Experience in Power including Galaxy, Lorain, DC distribution systems, and troubleshooting.
