What you’ll be doing...

You will report to the Associate General Counsel – Tort Litigation and assist with the day-to-day case management of a voluminous and varied portfolio of tort litigation. The docket consists of hundreds of lawsuits nationally with cases involving auto liability (AL) and general liability (GL) claims, including personal injury, premises liability, property damage, and trespass. Your responsibilities will include liaising with Verizon’s outside counsel, third party claims administrator, client stakeholders, and internal functional teams, in addition to assisting with docket-related tracking and reporting initiatives.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Working with the Associate General Counsel – Tort Litigation to ensure efficient, effective, and consistent handling of AL/GL cases across the comprehensive docket, including liaising with national outside counsel and third party administrator adjusters on a variety of issues to ensure adherence to Litigation Guidelines, regular communication, and case monitoring;
  • Assisting the Associate General Counsel – Tort Litigation with all aspects of the day to day case management of a tranche of complex and significant matters, including initial investigations and fact-gathering, reviewing draft pleadings, discovery responses, and settlement agreements for approval, and attending regular meetings;
  • Liaising with a variety of internal functional teams and clients on discovery-related requests and document collection, preparing and issuing document retention notices when appropriate, coordinating deposition preparation sessions and site inspections, and coordinating the review and execution of client affidavits;
  • Assisting with organizing and tracking information to produce AL/GL litigation-related reporting on docket metrics, trends, and initiatives, and assisting with the preparation for regular meetings on such reporting;
  • Assisting with creating and streamlining best practices protocols and other internal processes to ensure efficiency and consistency across the docket, reviewing and refining data collection associated with AL/GL cases, and expanding the AL/GL document library;
  • Assisting with high-level docket-related projects, presentations, and initiatives as they arise; and
  • Providing general support to the larger Litigation team, Senior Managing Associate General Counsel, and SVP of Litigation.

This hybrid role will have a defined work location that includes work from home and assigned office days as set by the manager.

What we’re looking for...

You'll need to have:

  • Bachelor's degree or four or more years of work experience.
  • Three or more years of relevant work experience.
  • Experience working as a litigation paralegal.

Even better if you have one or more of the following:

  • Paralegal Certificate.
  • Experience assisting with voluminous litigation dockets involving hundreds of cases.
  • Experience as a litigation paralegal in an in-house corporate setting.
  • Experience assisting with insurance defense litigation.
  • Experience assisting with cases involving a variety of functional teams and departments.
  • Experience with electronic case management platforms and reporting.
