What you’ll be doing...

You will support and maintain an effective overall controls environment for Global Payroll, ensuring the systems and practices are compliant with country, federal, state and local tax laws as well as Verizon Policy, in order to reduce Verizon’s exposure to tax risks. You will lead & serve as the subject matter expert for Verizon’s Work Forward Initiative. You will conduct evaluations of telecommuting tax processes and policies in the Payroll Tax function to identify opportunities for validating and enforcing tax compliance as well as strengthen internal tax controls. You will be responsible for implementing process improvements related to tracking and using virtual tax locations, as well as summarizing and presenting to upper management. You will also perform detailed tax analysis of complex business telecommuting process requirements and provide appropriate system solutions for CIC+ and Workday Integrations.

While working with the Global Payroll Transactional Auditors and Global Payroll Sr. Trainers, you will enforce and sustain accuracy by reviewing and updating training curriculum and compliance documentation. Additionally, you will partner and collaborate with internal and external auditors to assist with data inquiries and remediation where applicable.

  • Work independently to perform standard audits of Work Forward employee level data, identify opportunities, develop plans to remediate deficiencies, and monitor performance against those actions.
  • Develop a schedule to perform repeatable telecommuting process reviews to evaluate current business practices and ensure internal control structures follow wage and pay practices, federal, state, and local taxation and Verizon data policies.
  • Perform annual system reviews in PeopleSoft as well as applicable third party systems. Identify discrepancies and assist with remediation recommendations. Assist with any compliance issues raised or identified through to remediation.
  • Follow up to ensure completion of all actions and report appropriate metrics to management, including development of training curriculum to support and enforce compliance.
  • Exercise judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action.
  • Collaborate with tax vendor on defects and system enhancements related to tracking employee updates into account upcoming state or local changes and industry trends.
  • Monitor COVID-19 tax legislation and regulatory developments, and model impacts of legislative proposals.
  • Stay abreast on multistate tax regulations and procedures to increase operational efficiency and proactively identify and resolve potential issues in upcoming Work Forward rollouts.
  • Determine quarterly checks to validate country, federal, state and local tax requirements are in compliance for employees who live and/or work in multiple states, including employees on alternative work arrangements.
  • Participates in projects and process improvements for the department, as needed.
  • Manages execution of project plan and deliverables for the Payroll tax area.
  • Assists senior management in achieving business results by utilizing technical knowledge and skills to enhance business processes.

What we’re looking for...

You’ll need to have:

  • Bachelor's degree or four or more years of work experience.
  • Four or more years of relevant work experience.
  • Knowledge of Federal, State and Local/county tax requirements.
  • Knowledge of multistate taxation practices and regulations.
  • Knowledge of telecommuting policies and upcoming legislation.
  • Knowledge of W-2 regulations and consenting electronically.
  • Experience in continuous improvement initiatives, and root cause analysis.
  • Experience working in a team environment.
  • Project management experience.

  • Strong financial acumen.
