What you’ll be doing...

As Export/Import Compliance Manager, you will review international opportunities at time of quote and order to ensure they pass restricted parties screening, end use/end user screening, embargo screening, and license determinations. You will review and classify items and/or products that will be transferred or sold internationally to ensure they have the proper foreign import and export ECCN and HTS classifications and are going to authorized end users and places. You will be responsible to draft procedures and manage Verizon’s Internal Control Plan with focus on EMEA (Europe, Middle East, Africa) region and the laws in the countries where Verizon operates.

  • Supporting internal and external audits on the export/import entries as well as performing periodical checks to monitor entries against Customs reports and ensure proper recordkeeping where necessary.
  • Support EMEA stakeholders and their export/import activities, perform periodical trainings and communicate trade policy to keep them informed.
  • Work with third party suppliers, forwarders, and import brokers to ensure proper reasonable care with Verizon's international transactions.
  • Help Interpret regulations and apply decisions when compliance holds are encountered in the trade database on parts and transactions.
  • Secure export and import licenses when required from the government authorities and manage them in the global license management tools and systems.

You like when things run smoothly-—but when they don’t, you are not afraid to hold transactions and research further when warranted. When risk is uncovered, you’ll calmly find a solution and then re-engineer the process and take corrective action to improve it for next time. And you’re always on the lookout for ways to improve efficiency while still complying. You have a good sense of judgement and will know when to stop and escalate risky scenarios. No balls drop on your watch as you can balance lots of different priorities and still keep track of all the details. You operate with a sense of urgency for our customers and follow our code of conduct in all situations. You work well with lots of different kinds of people and respect all cultures. You know how to flex your style to suit the situation and still make progress. You prefer a fast-paced environment with new challenges every single day. You have a thorough understanding of the export and import laws and the countries and end users that may be a concern. You can classify products into HTS categories and have a good understanding of the EU Export and Import Regulations. Any experience with US regulations a plus including the Export Commodity Control Numbers that apply to Telecommunications materials and encryption.
You’ll need to have:

  • Bachelor's degree or four or more years of work experience.
  • Four or more years of relevant work experience.
  • Relevant experience in International Supply Chain.
  • Four or more years of relevant work experience in Export/Import Compliance or Intl Logistics.
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule and to travel when necessary.
  • Knowledge of the Commerce Control Lists for Dual Use Products and the Wassenaar Treaty.

Even better if you have one or more of the following:

  • A degree or Certification in Import/Export Compliance or International Logistics.
  • The ability to classify to the harmonized tariff schedule (HTS).
  • Logistics experience. Ideally, international transportation, international purchasing, or Global Supply Chain management.
  • Experience with Dutch Export and import laws.
  • Experience with applying for export and import licenses or permits.
  • Experience with customs clearances and customs declarations.
