What you’ll be doing...

You’ll be part of the International Accounting & Reporting team based in the International Headquarters in Reading UK. You’ll be supporting elements of the Verizon Business Group business as well as Verizon Connect. Verizon Connect is guiding a connected world on the go by automating, optimizing and revolutionizing the way people, vehicles and things move through the world. Our full suite of industry-defining solutions and services put innovation, automation and connected data to work for customers and help them be safer, more efficient and more productive.

This position supports general accounting for in scope EMEA entities and reports to Sr Manager, Accounting for Connect. A majority of the responsibilities will be to assist the Sr Manager with the monthly close process and ad hoc projects.

As a key member of the team, you will use your expertise and knowledge to not only complete the responsibilities of the role but to look for improvements in processes and savings in time and effort.

Responsibility for General Ledger activities for in-scope EMEA entities (France and BENELUX)

  • Preparation of monthly financial reports, ensuring they are completed in a timely, accurate and efficient manner.
  • Preparation, analysis and posting of periodic journals (accruals, prepayments, payroll, intercompany).
  • Preparation and analysis of balance sheet reconciliations in Blackline each month end and provide supports on differences.
  • Liaise with external accountants regarding local accounting and tax compliance.
  • Engage to successfully complete multiple and diverse deliverables.
  • Maintain adequate controls over financial processes and results.
  • Provision of input on local finance policies and procedures ensuring ongoing compliance for all accounting and finance operations.
  • Support the continued rollout of SAP, process improvement and optimisation.
  • Interact with key internal stakeholders outside of Accounting (Verizon Functional teams, Tax, Legal, Auditors).
  • Collaborate with external audit staff for periodic year-end review procedures and local statutory audits as required.
  • Ensure the accurate compilation, analysis and reporting of financial data along with recommendations on possible courses of action as appropriate.
  • Identifies/Supports opportunities to increase the leveraging of systems and applications by the user community to enhance business systems optimization for the overall process to minimize manual work‐around and stand‐alone systems.
  • Ensure compliance and adherence with controls for internal policies and external regulations.
  • Support Finance Transformation focused initiatives within EMEA and involvement across International.

What we’re looking for...

Where you'll be working:

In this hybrid role, you'll have a defined work location that includes work from home and assigned office days set by your manager.

You’ve got accounting expertise, you’re great at meeting tight deadlines, working as part of a team or individually, providing advice and researching improvements to processes and tasks. You are comfortable managing data from multiple systems, describing complex accounting concepts and working well across multiple functions both in EMEA, Internationally and with the US.

You'll need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree or relevant work experience.
  • Working knowledge of multi-currency and financial systems (SAP, Blackline).
  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles for European countries (France and BENELUX) or IFRS.
  • Knowledge of FASB, SEC requirements, SOX compliance and US Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
  • Knowledge of accounting systems and applications such as SAP, Analysis for Office and Blackline
  • Experience working within a multinational company.
  • Fluency in French.

Even better if you have one of the following:

  • Finalist or Qualified Accountant (ACCA, ACA or CIMA) with relevant experience.
  • Strong computer skills utilising Microsoft Office, especially in Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Proficiency in a European language other than English.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Big 4 Accounting/Advisory/Audit experience.
  • Demonstrated Shared Service Center experience.
  • Experience in running continuous improvement projects, and conducting root cause analysis.
  • Experience gained whilst working in the IT or Telecommunications industry.
  • Experience in using Marcos, SAP Scripting, Robotics or other digital techniques.
