What you’ll be doing...

Verizon is looking for a talented, dynamic, customer-focused transactional attorney to review, draft, and negotiate business-to-business-to-consumer service agreements for large and sophisticated, multinational commercial accounts in the exciting IIoT/Connected Cars Segment. This is a new high-growth Segment within the business with commercial deals that often involve cutting-edge technology issues. We are looking for a stellar attorney with creativity, initiative, and drive who can handle a high volume of varied and complex commercial transactional work. You will be drafting and negotiating enterprise sales contracts, and a strong understanding of issues specific to technology contracting such as intellectual property and privacy, to provide strategic legal advice to enable revenue generation while creatively balancing commercial and compliance risks. The attorney will work closely with internal teams including Sales, Finance, Regulatory, Product Management, Engineering, and Customer Service to address custom customer needs and drive consensus across functional areas.

  • Counsel enterprise sales clients concerning legal and business matters arising from service agreements among Verizon and its customers.
  • Review, draft and negotiate numerous complex contracts simultaneously, including service agreements, non-standard nondisclosure agreements, statements of work, and ancillary legal documents.
  • Evaluate whether Verizon’s provision of services to particular customers will necessitate compliance with certain industry-specific and/or country-specific requirements particularly for emerging technologies like Autonomous Vehicles, Autonomous Mobile Robots, and drones.
  • Assess and mitigate potential risks to Verizon from emerging customer-driven use cases involving Verizon network, real-time kinetics, 5G, Mobile Edge Computing, and other services.
  • Ensure that all transactions are legally sound and comply with all Verizon policies and practices and all applicable laws, rules, and regulations.
  • Collaborate with colleagues in EMEA, Asia Pacific, and Latin America regions to develop and negotiate global agreements.
  • Support the Legal Department and other internal stakeholders with ongoing and special initiatives, including process improvement, template development, and training initiatives.
  • Maintain excellent working relationships with Sales and Finance clients, Verizon legal colleagues, other internal stakeholders, and customers, and ensure that the clients’ legal needs are fully satisfied.

This hybrid role will have a defined work location that includes work from home and assigned office days as set by the manager.

What we’re looking for...

You’ll need to have:

  • JD degree and six or more years of relevant work experience.
  • Bar membership in good standing, and needed licenses.
  • Experience drafting and negotiating complex commercial service agreements.
  • Willingness to travel.

Even better if you have one or more of the following:

  • Experience in emerging technology and / or the automotive industry.
  • Experience counseling clients on privacy rules and regulations and other requirements relating to the protection of confidential and personal information.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with multiple internal and external groups simultaneously to quickly achieve common goals.
  • Well-honed project management and organizational skills to closely manage multiple transactions and complex projects and process a high volume of work in a timely and accurate manner with high attention to detail.
  • Ability to interact comfortably with personnel in various roles and levels across the organization, and enforce legal requirements.
  • Proven ability to spot problems and develop and lead implementation of creative solutions.
  • Ability to be a self-starter who takes initiative to develop, lead and implement special projects.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills.
  • Reasonable proficiency with computers, including working knowledge of G Suite (Google Docs, Google Sheets, Gmail, etc.), and Microsoft Office, and the ability to learn and work in Verizon contracting and workflow reporting systems.
