Responsibilities

The Lead System Administrator oversees a function team of operations system administrators. The Lead System Administrator provides implementation and operational support for server hardware, operating systems, virtualization environments, and infrastructure software for the  organization. Produce specific deliverables relating to network and hardware / software implementation and operations management projects.

Technical Leadership - Lead a functional team

Responsible for the leadership of a functional group and development of broad programs or projects in support of strategies; communicates & translates functional/operational goals into team goals; manages implementation of policies and procedures.

Functional Expert:   Acts independently or as a member of a highly skilled technical team responsible for fulfilling complex business requirements with the implementation of reliable & efficient automated solutions; may be enterprise wide initiatives. Provide tier 2 support for escalated issues and problems.

Receives broad guidance & is accountable for project or program results.  Exercises considerable judgment in developing methods, techniques & evaluation criteria for obtaining results.  Work is accomplished without considerable direction. Delegates work to lower-banded team members.

Develops resolutions to complex problems that require the frequent use of creativity.  Analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors. Exercises judgment in selecting methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results.

Responsible for all aspects of the development & implementation of large and complex projects and provides a single point of contact for those projects - original concept through final implementation.

Review failures, outages and oncall events. Ensure that RCAs are completed on time for all outages. Identify and track chronic issues to resolution. Recommend courses of action to prevent recurrence and follow up to address all potentially impacted systems.

Schedule and run weekly team meetings, maintain agenda, capture action items, follow up to ensure that action items are promptly resolved.

System Administration: Implementation and Operational Support

- Perform system administration for enterprise server and bladecenter hardware including Oracle, HP, Cisco, IBM and Dell.

- Perform system administration for enterprise operating system software including Oracle Solaris, RedHat Linux, SUSE Linux, and Microsoft Windows Server.

- Perform system administration for enterprise virtualization environments including VMware ESXi and Oracle VM for SPARC.

- Perform system administration for enterprise volume management and high availability software including Symantec Storage Foundation and VCS software.

Qualifications

Bachelors degree in Engineering, Computer Science or similar. Masters degree preferred.

7 years of Linux system administration experiance in an enterprise environment.

Windows, Solaris, VMware, Storage Foundation, and/or VCS administration experience preferred.
