What you’ll be doing...

In this Systems and Maintenance Engineering position you’ll be working in the area of authentication and authorization services and apply your expertise in the areas of device technology, network system architecture, design, integration, testing, provisioning and billing. You’ll be routinely involved with business critical, revenue impacting issues and assigned complex issues to solve while working with diverse cross functional teams. Your ability to build consensus within Verizon and supplier and partner organizations and drive these complex issues to resolution allows you to effectively tackle any problem. You will primarily be working on enhancements to Verizon’s WLAN / Wi-Fi Access Authentication and Entitlement workflows, both of which are encompassed by services provided by the Subscriber Profile Controller (SPC) platform and related systems. You will serve as an expert, advisor and technical leader for the authentication and authorization services provided by the Subscriber Profile Controller (SPC) and related systems and leverage your expertise and relationships to drive both technical and process efficiencies and improvements in the network. You will collaborate not only within Network but with Wholesale (and their MSO partners), Marketing, IT, HQ Planning, Device Technology, Product Development and our supplier community to drive innovative solutions that elevate Verizon’s competitive advantage.

This position, in particular, is currently focused on engineering / implementing SPC-based WLAN Offload and Entitlement services.

• Interpreting industry standards and working with cross functional teams from Wholesale (and their MSO partners), Marketing, HQ Planning, Product Development, IT, Device Technology and Network to interpret and refine their business and network requirements.
• Coordinating with vendors and partners on network implementations to support business requirements.
• Designing system and network configurations to support highly available / high performance implementations of business requirements.
• Implementing and testing lab and production systems, including the development of test plans.
• Collecting data related to system problems, analyzing it, and developing resolutions; including system and application logs, packet captures and protocol analysis.
• Working with device OEMs to define / refine their implementations of related device-system interactions.
• Coordinating multiple large-scale, complex platforms and providing third-tier support function.

You’ll need to have:

• Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of work experience.
• Six or more years of relevant work experience.
• Wireless industry experience.
• Willingness to travel up to 25% of the time.

Even better if you have one or more of the following:

• A degree in computer science or electrical engineering.
• Experience with Red Hat Linux.
• Experience with cloud architecture.
• Experience with Management and Orchestration (NFVi or Resource Orchestration).
• Experience with OpenStack (RHEL Director) and OpenStack services (Horizon, Nova, Neutron, Keystone, Ceilometer, Glance, Heat, Cinder/Swift, or Ceph).
• Project/vendor management experience.
• Experience with Python, bash, JSON, YAML, REST, or Ansible.
• Experience with QCOW2 or RAW images.
• Experience with TCP/IP, Routing and OSI 7-layer protocol.
• Experience with Server Load Balancing (SLB).
• Experience with IMS and/or VoLTE.
• Experience with network automation and deployment methods, managing data center elements, hardware, software, and power requirements, and overseeing vendors.
• Experience in end-to-end architecture, design, test, implementation and support of roaming solutions.
• Experience with mobile handsets/SIMs.
• Knowledge of the OSI Interconnect model and how it relates to the design and deployment of structured networks.
• Five or more years of experience with platform load, stress and performance characterization.
• Three or more years of experience with deploying VNF components within virtualized OpenStack environments.
• Two or more years of experience with CICD (Continuous Integration & Continuous Delivery) and Test Automation framework (Robot Framework).
• Experience working with Agile Development teams.
• Strong network/systems design, configuration and troubleshooting skills.
• Ability to work under tight deadline with constantly changing priorities.
• Experience in application integration and vendor management.
