What is FiOS Mobile Remote?

A: FiOS Mobile Remote let's you turn your mobile device into a remote control for your FiOS TV.

Customizable, portable favorites – auto-import all TV programs you’ve marked as Favorites, add to or remove from your list and take them with you to any HD Set-Top Box in your home.

Flick photos to the TV – take any photo on your mobile device and flick it directly to the TV! It will instantly appear on your TV; show a big screen slideshow of all photos on your phone.

Mute TV for phone calls – set your app to automatically mute the TV when you’re receiving a call. It lets you easily switch from controlling the TV to taking that important call to watching TV again.

View TV listing - View the TV guide on your phone, without obstructing channel viewing on TV.

Control DVR - schedule a recording or delete recorded programs anytime from your mobile.

How do I download FiOS Mobile Remote to my mobile device?

A: To download the FiOS Mobile Remote app, we recommend first registering your mobile device with your HD STB.

After registering your mobile device, Verizon will send a text message on your mobile device with a link to install the FiOS Mobile Remote app.

How do I register my mobile device with my HD Set-Top Box (STB)?

A: Registering your mobile device is a two-step process. You will need to be in front of your HD STB with your mobile device:

I've registered my mobile device with my living room Set-Top Box (STB). How do I use my mobile device with an HD STB in another room?

A: To use your mobile device with another HD STB in your home, you must first register the mobile device with that STB.

Note: Once you've registered with multiple STBs in your home, you can easily switch between STBs. When the FiOS Mobile Remote app is open on your mobile device, press the STB button in the top-right corner of your screen.

The app will search for all the HD STBs you have registered with this mobile number. The STB name will flash in top-right corner of your TV, and a list of STBs will be displayed on your mobile device. Select the STB name to which you want to use your mobile device.

Using Your Mobile Device as your Remote Control

Can I skip to a specific channel number?

A: Yes. At the bottom of the Remote screen there is a button labeled Keyboard. Press Keyboard and then press the 123 key to show the numbers. Enter a channel number and the TV will change to the new channel entered. If the mobile device has a keyboard, you can use the keyboard also.

How do I record a show to my DVR?

A: You can record a program by opening Remote and following these steps:

From the DVR Controls screen you can also use all of the trick plays such as Play, Pause, Stop, FFW and REW.

How can I adjust the volume of my Set-Top Box (STB)?

A: Press the Vol + or Vol - button on the Main Controls screen to adjust the volume on your HD STB.

If you’re having trouble adjusting your volume, you may need to alter your HD STB settings.

  1. Press Menu
  2. Navigate to Settings, then Audio and finally Volume Control
  3. Press OK
  4. Select Variable from the list
  5. Press OK to save this option
  6. Press Exit

You should now be able to adjust your HD STB volume with your FiOS Mobile Remote app.

I saw a message that says this app is not supported in landscape view. What should I do when I see this message?

A: You are receiving this message because the keyboard that slides out from your Droid mobile device has been opened. Please make sure that the keyboard in slid all the way under the touch screen.

How do I get the favorites channels from my Set-Top Box (STB)?

A: When you first install this app, register your mobile device and start communicating with an HD STB, your Favorites will be automatically imported. You can update this list manually by opening the context menu in Favorites and selecting Import Favorites from STB option.

You can also add or remove Favorites from your mobile device but they won't be reflected on your STB – they're unique to your device alone.

Connecting to My WiFi Network

How do I connect my Android™ device to my WiFi network?

A: Follow these steps to connect your Android device:

  1. Press the Menu key from your home screen.
  2. Press Settings.
  3. Select Wireless & Network or WiFi Controls
  4. Press WiFi Settings
  5. Select your home FiOS WiFi network from the list of available networks.

How do I connect my Windows Mobile® device to my WiFi network?

A: Follow these steps to connect your Windows Mobile device:

  1. Press the Start menu button from your home screen.
  2. If your Touch Flow 3D is OFF, select Programs.
    If your Touch Flow 3D is ON, skip to step 3.
  3. Select Communications Manager from the list of available icons.
  4. Finally, press WiFi and select your home FiOS WiFi network for the list of available networks.

How do I automatically mute the TV when I answer a call on my mobile device?

A: You can activate this feature in Settings in the FiOS Mobile Remote app. Open Settings and press Tele-TV Mute to turn it ON.

When this feature is activated, the TV will be automatically muted when you receive a call on your mobile device, and then the volume will be restored when the call ends.

How do I change the photo slideshow speed?

A: You can adjust the photo slideshow speed from two places within the FiOS Mobile Remote app.

From Photos:

  1. Press Slideshow Speed from the bottom of the screen.
  2. Choose Slow, Medium or Fast.
  3. Press OK to save.

From Settings:

  1. Open Settings, press Slideshow Speed and choose Slow, Medium or Fast
  2. Press OK to save.

Why does my mobile device vibrate when I'm using it with this app? How do I turn it on/off?

This vibration response is called haptic feedback. To turn it on or off, open Settings within the FiOS Mobile Remote app. Touch On/Off next to Feedback Vibration.

What is "Parental controls" and how does it work?

A: This feature lets you lock channels from playing on your TV. Tap to select the desired rating and any program with a higher rating than that would be locked.

This is a password controlled mode. On first time use you will be asked to set up a password. You can re-set the password from within this section in Settings.

What is the use of "My Set Top Box" option?

A: This section lists all the STBs tied to your account along with their technical specification. There is also an option to rename your Set Top Box.

How do I automatically Pause the TV when I answer a call on my mobile device?

A: You can activate this feature in Settings in the FiOS Remote app. Open Settings and press Tele-TV Pause to turn it ON.

When this feature is activated, the TV will be automatically paused when you receive a call on your mobile device, and will resume when the call ends.

I am tired of these help tips popping up every time I use the app. Is there a way to switch this off/on?

A: You can de-activate this feature in Settings in the FiOS Remote app. Open Settings and press Show Help Tips to turn it OFF.

If you wish to see help tips again you can turn this feature ON from Settings.

Managing My DVR

Can I control my DVR from the Verizon FiOS Mobile Remote app?

A: Yes, this feature is available to all customers with at least one DVR set-top box.

To upgrade your service to include a DVR set-top box, please go here [http://www22.verizon.com/ForYourHome/MyAccount/Protected/Account/MyAccountOverview.aspx].

Click on Add/Return Equipment under TV Account Actions. If you are exchanging equipment, do not forget to check "Yes, I want to return some equipment" at the top of the form and we will send you a postage-paid box to easily return the old set-top box.

I have a DVR but receive a "Set-Top Box is not responding" message when I try to access my DVR through the Verizon FiOS Mobile Remote app or through the FiOS TV Central website. What do I do?

If you have verified your router configuration is correct with no non-standard configurations and your service is still not working, please try the following steps:

If the reboot is unsuccessful in solving the problem, contact customer support at 888-553-1555. Tell the representative you have a "web remote or remote DVR" issue, you cannot see your recorded programs or scheduled recordings, and you cannot create new recordings via the web or mobile application.

I've registered my mobile device with my main HD set-top box (STB). How do I use my mobile device with an HD STB in another room?

A: To use your device with another HD STB in your home, you must first check if the device is already registered with that STB.

How can I delete, modify and manage my recorded series?

A: As of now, this feature is only available from your FiOS TV. While in front of your TV, go to the DVR menu and then to Series Manager. From there, you can delete a series, modify it to record first run only or first run and repeats, modify start time, etc. We plan to add this functionality into the application soon.

Is the remote DVR feature supported by a non-Verizon provided router?

A: No, only Verizon provided routers are supported to work with the remote DVR feature at this time.

The application could not detect my telephone number, what should I do?

A: The SIM card in your device has a slot for your phone number, but it is not required for operation. Your mobile carrier can fix this issue over-the-air by downloading it to the device's SIM card. Please contact your carrier's customer support and let them know the situation.

How do I get a DVR if I do not have one?

A: That's easy! To upgrade your service to include a DVR set-top box, please go to http://www22.verizon.com/ForYourHome/MyAccount/Protected/Account/MyAccountOverview.aspx. Click on Add/Return Equipment under the TV Account Actions. If you are exchanging equipment, do not forget to check "Yes. I will be returning some equipment." at the top of the form and we will send you a postage-paid box to easily return the old set-top box.

Search

How do I search for a movie or show?

A: There are two ways to search for a movie or a show:

  1. Once you open search, a list of categories are shown. You can choose one of them to see a list of programs under that category. Click through to find a program of your interest.
  2. The other option will be to type a search string in the search box – e.g., a TV or movie show title or an actor's name – and the search results will show up below.

Select the relevant search result set to open it (for an actor, results will show the list of movies or TV shows with that actor in the cast; for a program, results will show its airtimes and the actors in the cast).

*** Note: If you enter another search term while a result set is displayed, you are only searching within that result set ***


Select a TV or VOD Program from the results list to view its details.

Press back to return to the previous results screen within a search.

Tip: If you are using a soft keyboard with auto-completion/auto-correction (e.g., HTC's "XT9"), we recommend disabling that function for the search function.

Otherwise, you have to hit the soft keyboard enter key to perform the search and the auto-correction function may prevent you from entering your search term as desired.
