Shifting Orbits

Take the TimePod on a journey across time and space to Mars in 2024 to help solve a series of crises as Earth begins its full colonization of the red planet. You will be helped along by ADA (Autonomous Digital Assistant), who has traveled with the TimePod across millennia. As you encounter challenges, invite your friends to help you and even remotely control the TimePod wherever they are. Episode 1-Intro Sequence will get you familiarized with the TimePod, TimeFrames and ADA, as you fix the TimePod and arrive on Mars! In Episode 2-Water students will work to discover water on the planet. Students will work through questions to help them think through how to best utilize and secure water on Mars.
 
TimePod Adventures is an Augmented Reality app with multiplayer elements allowing multiple users to take part wherever they are through a browser.

NASA’s Mars in a Minute: How Do You Get to Mars?

In this physics-centered activity, students will investigate the best way to transfer between two moving objects in space. First, students will simulate the planets’ orbits by tossing a ball to each other as they move—focusing on factors that impact the success of their pass. Next, they will be introduced to the Hohmann transfer, and they will create a model that demonstrates how this theory recommends objects move between orbits. They will then wrap up by discussing the various reasons why this transfer is more efficient than traveling between the planets in a straight line.

Give your students access to this app by sharing a class access code. To best organize your codes, we suggest creating one access code per class, and using labels to help you keep track of the codes. Multiple students can use each class code.

Create new educator code

Generating a new code will automatically disable the current educator access code.

By deactivating this class code, students using this code will lose access to the app.  As an educator, you will still have access to the app with your educator code.

By disabling the educator code, you may lose access to this app. To regain access, you will need to create a new educator code.

Use your educator access code to log into VIL Apps along with the email associated with your VIL account. Each educator has their own unique educator access code for each app.  Do not share the educator code with students.
