It would be a good phone if it worked correctly

Spade · 2 days ago

This phone felt like I was using a prototype It had pretty bad touch lag, half the time I would have to tap 2 or more times on whatever I tried to select and the most annoying part was that the vertical sides of the screen were waaay too sensitive to touch. While watching Netflix or Hulu you have to be careful where you rest your hands on the phone or it will take you to somewhere completely else in the middle of whatever you're watching. If all of that worked right it'd be pretty fast and useful.

Piece of Crap

Don't get me wrong, I've always been a big fan of samsung. I own three Samsung tablets and two Samsung's phone and a Samsung watch. That said, this is the worst product I've ever gotten from samsung. Highly recommend do not buy. People on the other end constantly complain or hang up because they can't hear me, I sound garbled. The antenna is weak also so that the cell phone tower which is a half mile away is still giving me minus 120 or - 123 decibles. The built-in camera is horrible if you want to upload pictures to people. And because Google 11 does not allow you to pick a default camera, anytime you drop up to take a picture it will use this camera that uploads very poorly. In short, I highly recommend you get another phone or else you'll like me, be stuck with a 20 more months of payments and having to put up with this thing for nearly two years more

Useless piece of...

Not recommended · 6 days ago

I didn't use this phone much at first. But after my 14 days were up the need to use it increased. That's when I noticed it would drop calls or not let me place a call at all. When calls do go through the person on the other end can't hear me. Verizon didn't seem to know how to fix it. Warranty had been voided because I dropped it and it cracked. Yes I had a case, but I thought the case was causing issues because it worked better without it. Of course, 2 days without a case and I drop it. That's on me. So now Verizon's next suggestion is to send it in for repair, which would probably cost more than the phone. On top of the calls, it doesn't send pics very well, sometimes not for a day or more will it go through. Needless to say, I'm either stuck with a piece of crap phone or I pay it off and get a new one. Basically buy 2 phones and use 1. Lesson here... be sure you're happy with it within those 2 weeks and don't assume "it will be ok". If it doesn't work with the case on, take it in and let Verizon people look at it. Voided warranties suck.

Great Phone

calcal13 · 7 days ago

Yes, I'd recommend this product.

I had a Sim card issue at first and couldn't set up my phone. I pulled out the card tray and the card fell out. When I placed the card properly in the tray and all went well. I love this gorgeous phone. Easy to set up and easy to use. I bought it to replace my six-year-old Samsung because the battery was dying. It's a larger phone than what I am used to but I'm getting used to it. It's a great phone, thus far.

A cheap phone that's 5G capable. That's it.

CharlieQuebec66 · 7 days ago

This is a sub - par phone, with the only two selling points being that it's 5G capable, and relatively cheap. Annoyances : As a phone, there is nothing special, the speakers flatten conversations, and for teleconferencing using the speaker phone, it's difficult to make out different parties on the line. Camera is lame, takes lackluster photos, has a significant lag, and a lousy interface that confuses. I recently had the opportunity to ask other folks to take pictures of my wife and I. Three or four folks asked couldn't get the camera to operate. The screen disappoints every time I try to watch a video or look at pictures, with a poor resolution and color performance. Trying to set ring tones and sounds for different callers has never been so painful. The few times it does work, it changes ALL the ring or text notification sounds instead of just the one you wanted. I finally gave up. Screen interaction feels sloppy, though it does give you the experience of trying to text on a good phone when you're drunk, minus the hangover. Finally, the point that really drives home how bad this phone is: a week after I purchased it, I started getting bombarded by Samsung and Verizon with ads for the new Samsung fold phones, with the offer of trading in my current phone as an enticement. However, the A42 is the one phone Samsung won't take in trade! That's right, this phone is such junk that the company that made it, Samsung, won't take it back in trade! Bottom line: avoid this phone, like the plague. Buy anything else. Two tin cans and a string would probably make you happier.

AWESOME & AFFORDABLE

LARS · 11 days ago

Yes, I'd recommend this product.

This phone is way underrated as far as I'm concerned. For someone that wants an affordable 5g phone that's fast and takes great photos, the A42 would be hard to overlook. The fingerprint set up and fingerprint reading has been the biggest hurdle, but it just might take a bit of getting used to. That is the only reason I rated the performance as good rather then excellent. Other then that, overall I'm very pleased.

Downgraded

Graygirl22 · 17 days ago

We had Samsung Galaxy 8+ phones and moved to these, we both hate it! Camera is junk, our service has gotten progressively worse. Calls drop, text msgs fail and the quality is just not as good as what we had.

Overall pretty good, but some significant flaws

Frank C · 18 days ago

The Good - nice screen, very fast, and mostly easy to use. Sound quality during calls was poor at first, but has improved (maybe due to a software update?). The Bad: Tons of pre-installed apps you can't delete. The sleep button is right where I (and most people I lend it to put their hand when holding it), so I have to sign back in a LOT. I went to the Verizon kiosk where I live for a case and they said they don't have any for that phone, only a screen protector (I got the protector) - and wouldn't you know it, I dropped the phone. One small drop from the sitting position and the screen cracked! And oh ya, it took me about a dozen times to upload this review because it says my ad blocker was in the way, but I uninstalled it.

Worst Phone Ever

JaySun · 20 days ago

I have been a LOYAL Samsung user. I don't like that other "fruity" company. I chose this phone because I was told it was basically the same as my S10, with a few upgrades. I didn't need the "latest and greatest" because all the reviews said the pictures were too big to store in the cloud and caused major problems. Anyway, this phone is NOT the same as the S10, it so much worse. Delays, shut downs, overall bad performance. If you are thinking about it, DON'T!! It takes forever to send pics to friends and family, IF they actually go through. Uploading to social media happens sometimes, doesn't happen other times. If it happens, it has taken upwards of 7+ minutes and drained my battery. Just Do NOT buy!!!

This 5g phone has very slow connectivity!

patman468 · 24 days ago

I lost my Samsung Galaxy S9+ and got the A42 5G as a replacement. The battery life is considerably better and the screen seems clearer, but the connectivity is poor, downloads are extremely slow and the screen sensitivity is much too high. I don't keep it in my pocket unless I have too. I recently had my S9+ returned to me and I am seriously considering switching back to it.
