Can I get a computer virus from spam? How can Verizon Online help me with spam?
  1. Use Spam Detector to help prevent spam. This tool filters spam before it reaches your Inbox. Spam Detector is automatically enabled when you set up your Verizon Online account during installation and begins filtering spam right away.

  2. Report spam that reaches your Inbox. If you are using a spam-filtering tool and still receive spam email, please forward the entire message, with full headers displayed, to
Yes, some viruses can send themselves to all of the email addresses in your electronic address book. This is one reason to be careful when opening or viewing attachments, even if they come from people you know and trust. If you are unsure whether an attachment is safe to open or view, delete it. Never open or view an attachment from an unknown source.

If you use the Email AutoPreview Pane option within Outlook or Outlook Express, you also increase your chances of getting a virus. To protect your computer from viruses, you should not use the AutoPreview Pane.

How do I prevent spam in the future?

Review a web site's privacy policy before providing information about yourself.

The policy outlines how they might use your email address or other personal information that they collect. If a Web site doesn't have a privacy policy or if the policy doesn't explicitly guarantee that your personal information will not be shared, you should assume that any information you provide to that site could be sold to spammers or other direct marketers.
