In the U.S., Veterans Day began as a way to observe the end of the First World War. One hundred years later, it’s about honoring and celebrating all military veterans as well as their families. As a global organization with more than 11,000 V Teamers who identify as military veterans, this gives us an opportunity to recognize the efforts all those who served.
This year, we’re saluting loud and proud, spotlighting our V Team military veterans, hosting Medal of Honor meet and greets, participating in a Wounded Warrior Project Carry Forward fun run/walk and more throughout the month of November. These events and activities complement our year-round efforts and commitment to hiring more veterans at Verizon.
If you’re new to our Careers community, we’d like to take a moment to provide some background. For Verizon, military recruitment is a company-wide initiative. With outstanding skills, experience, discipline and training, veterans contribute across our entire business.
Expanding our reach, we partner with a number of top organizations to make it easier for service members to enter our workforce. From Hirepurpose to Hiring Our Heroes, we’re working hard to engage veterans, online and in person. Just last year, we attended 172 military recruiting events. In addition to a dedicated team of recruiters and Veterans Advisory Board Employee Resource Group, we offer talent networks for veterans and their spouses, a resume builder, skills matcher and special discounts. All to say, we value our military as both customers — and employees.
