What you’ll be doing...

You’ll be joining the Network Security team within Verizon Global Network Management as a Senior Security Architect to ensure the operational security of next-generation Verizon networks continues to support exciting new products like 5G. Work in the Network Security team touches on multiple disciplines including big data analysis, machine learning, large-scale networking, and software.

  • Ensuring security is integrated into Verizon networks and services in the early stages of their development.
  • Ensuring that designs for new infrastructure fit within Verizon's operational security model.
  • Collaborating with Maintenance Engineering, Network Engineering, and Planning teams to initiate changes to the configuration of equipment in production to meet Verizon security standards.
  • Collaborating with security threat detection teams to analyze network data and ensure that alarming is created for unusual network conditions that may indicate a security issue.
  • Engaging other security, network planning, engineering, and operations teams to close any process gaps in the development and deployment of infrastructure.
  • Participating in IT Agile product increment and sprint planning activities to champion security requirements and user stories.
  • Giving operational feedback to Security Planning teams to provide upstream to vendors.

What we’re looking for...

You'll need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of work experience.
  • Six or more years of relevant work experience.

Even better if you have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field.
  • Experience with Internet protocols and technologies: ISIS, BGP, MLPS.
  • Protocol-level knowledge of IP traffic flow: UDP, TCP, ICMP and higher-layer protocols like DNS and HTTP.
  • Knowledge of data collection from network equipment (SNMP, netflow, gRPC).
  • Experience with the configuration languages and capabilities of network elements made by Cisco, Juniper, Nokia, and Arista.
  • Fundamental automation skills.
  • Experience with either scripting languages or compiled languages.
  • Experience using Linux/UNIX environments.
  • Experience searching and building reporting using Splunk or ElasticSearch/Logstash/Kibana.
  • Data analytics skills, for example with Splunk machine learning toolkit.
  • Experience with automation tools such as Ansible, Chef, or Puppet.
  • Security-related experience with authentication, authorization, and accounting protocols like TACACS+ and RADIUS.
  • Willingness to travel.
