What you’ll be doing...

Our team builds and maintains the backup infrastructure for the VNOE team across 8 NEC and 28 SAP sites Nationwide.This would including getting a quote from the right vendor , creating purchase orders , working with the vendor in racking, stacking the equipment , followed by requesting the network routes. We configure the equipmentand then set up client . Monitor the backups of clients and fix them if broken. Keep the inventory of the equipment and decommission EOSL equipment. Generate capacity forecast and manage storage and manage the yearly budget.

We provide the backup/restore support for application and database on VCP as well as the PNFs.

Responsible for engineering of backup storage solutions, including planning, design, ordering, build, testing, and integration into an operational environment.

  • Engineering support, analysis, design and technical direction regarding performance management and capacity planning services relative to the entire backup infrastructure.
  • Perform project management responsibilities and lead the installation, acceptance, signoff, and cutover of new backup infrastructure with National Network Operations (NNO) groups, Planning, Maintenance Engineering, Transport, Security, Regional Operations and Engineering teams, and other organizations.
  • Serve as the technical lead and give guidance to Operations teams in support of hardware/software upgrades, application of patches, and configuration of the VERITAS NetBackup software for various servers/clients/applications/databases.
  • Analyze and resolve production related issues associated with master and media server hardware and software components of the Enterprise.
  • Backup environments. Improve backup success by identifying and implementing process/areas of improvement.
  • Work closely with NetBackup Operations team, and Platform owners/ clients to monitor and verify backup jobs complete as expected.
  • Work to address/resolve failures.
  • Monitor network wide backup infrastructure to ensure capacity demands are met.
  • Perform performance tuning measures according to recommended NetBackup best practices/guidelines and verify against all baseline testing.
  • Provide direction to multiple vendors such as OnX, HP, Quantum, EMC, Veritas and others. Work with internal groups to develop and complete design, and sizing, and implement enhancements that maintain or improve reliability and performance of storage subsystem.
  • Effectively manage vendors and consultants.
  • Work with vendors to obtain quotes, negotiate pricing, and ensure their products and services meet Verizon requirements and standards.
  • Demonstrate/execute sound business practices relative to the procurement of equipment and services.
  • Must have a flexible work schedule and be able to do occasional night work during maintenance windows, as required.

What we’re looking for...

You'll need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, or four or more years of work experience.
  • Four or more years of relevant work experience.
  • Four or more years of experience with Enterprise NetBackup Environment.
  • Strong experience with Unix/Linux administration, network TCP/IP and shell scripting.
  • Strong experience and knowledge of database backup such as Oracle RMAN, and SQL.

Even better if you have one or more of the following:

  • Strong experience and knowledge of storage systems such as Data-domain, HP StoreOnce, Quantum DXi, and Symantec appliance.
  • Experience with SAN fabric technologies, Cisco MDS and Cisco Nexus.
  • Experience with thin provisioning, compression, and deduplication.
  • Working knowledge of virtualization technologies such as VMware.
  • Demonstrated general understanding of distributed computing concepts, including the principles of network routing and data center switching.
  • Ability to work independently, resolve issues/conflicts and make decisions based on sound business practice.
  • Strong leadership skills and ability to drive teams to consensus.
  • Ability and aptitude to develop new skills and support continuous self-improvement.
  • Ability to work multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong interpersonal, (oral and written) communications skills, for internal and external communication, at a varying degree of technical levels.
  • NEC and Mobile Switching Office/Center experience.

If you are hired into a Colorado work location, the compensation range for this position is between $83,000 and $155,000 based on a full-time schedule. The salary will vary depending on your location and confirmed job-related skills and experience.  This is an incentive based position with the potential to earn more. For part-time roles, your compensation will be adjusted to reflect your hours.
