Learn about Fios TV features
You can learn about many of the Fios TV features below. You can also learn about options available to you by going to channel 131, Fios Learning On Demand.
Using the interactive media guide
The Fios TV interactive media guide combines TV, internet and advanced search features into one media-management system. This is the place to access the Channel Guide, On Demand, PPV and other Fios TV features and functions.
Main Guide
When you press the remote’s Guide button, you get access to a variety of Fios TV features, including Filters, Jump To, Favorites and Free to Me.
Now & Next Guide
When you press Info or use either of the Up and Down arrows, you get access to the Now & Next Guide, which lets you browse what’s currently on and upcoming on adjacent channels without interrupting your current show. It uses your guide filters and gives you the capability to set recordings and reminders while you watch your show.
What’s on Guide
Choose from five different categories that let you see shows recommended for you that are currently on, including shows on channels that you watch most. Press OK on the remote to access the guide and then use the remote arrows to choose from Movies on Now, Trending Now, Sports on Now, Kids on Now and My Most Watched Channels.
Favorites
You can add channels to your own personalized Favorites 1 list and Favorites 2 list by using the remote’s arrows to select a channel logo and pressing OK. A heart (favorite) icon will display on the guide to indicate which channels are on your different lists.
Free to Me
The Free to Me tab on top of the on-screen cards and filters lets you quickly see what channels and titles are available to you for free based on your subscription.
Filters
While in the Main Guide, press the Guide button again to quickly and easily apply filters using any combination of Free to Me, Favorites 1 and Favorites 2. You can also use the Jump To feature to reach different channel neighborhoods in the guide from the same location.
Using voice commands
If you’re a Fios TV One customer, your Fios TV One voice remote lets you use voice commands within the guide to go to channels, jump to channel families, genres or neighborhoods, and even set recordings or add channels to Favorites 1 and Favorites 2.
Add a channel to your favorites list.
Highlight any channel’s logo or program, press the Microphone button and say, “Add to favorites,” “Add this channel to favorites” or “Add this channel to Favorites One” to add the channel to your Favorites 1 list.
The channel will be added to your Favorites 1 guide list. To add a channel to your Favorites 2 list, say, “Add this channel to Favorites Two.”
View your favorite channel lists.
Press the Microphone button and say, “Open my favorites,” “Show me my favorites” or “Open my guide.”
Edit or manage your favorites lists.
Highlight a channel or program in the guide, press the Microphone button, say one of the prompts below, and follow the on-screen instructions:
- Delete this channel
- Delete this channel from Favorite One (or Two)
- Manage favorites
- Manage my favorites
Limit the guide display to specific channel types or genre lists. Press the Microphone button and say “Open,” “Show me” or “Take me to,” and then say:
- Free to Me channels
- News channels
- HBO channels
- Sports channels
- HD channels
Say “Guide” to change the list back to the full guide display.
Record a current program.
If you’re watching a program in full screen on your TV and want to record what you’re watching to your DVR, press the Microphone button and say “Record this.”
Schedule a program to be recorded.
Highlight the program you want in the guide, press the Microphone button and say “Record this” or “Record this program.” The program will be added to your DVR schedule and will record when the program airs.
Scroll to a channel.
Press the Microphone button and say the desired channel, such as “899” or “CNN.” The guide will scroll to that channel row. Press OK and it will switch to that channel.
Go directly to a channel.
Press the Microphone button and say “Tune to... (channel name or number).”
Jump to channel neighborhoods.
Press the Microphone button and say “Jump to... (channel group or neighborhood, such as news)” and the guide will scroll to the lowest channel number or first channel in the group or neighborhood.
Using Fios TV widgets
A Fios TV widget is an application that lets you check out local information, such as the weather, based on your ZIP code. While you’re watching your TV program, the widget appears at the top of the screen when selected.
To set up a widget using your Fios remote control:
- Press Widgets or the A button
- Use the arrow keys to navigate and follow the on-screen prompts
You can toggle between full-screen view and the widget application view by pressing the Fios TV button on your remote.
You can use the Widget > Option menu if you need to change your ZIP code.
* Note: Widgets do not work while viewing On Demand programs. Also, the remote’s number keys do not work while a widget application is active, but you can change channels using the up and down arrows.
Setting parental controls
The parental controls feature allows you to:
- Use ratings to block what content can be viewed
- Use age preferences to block content for a particular age group
- Control the display of programming and information
- Block specific channels
To set parental controls on your Fios TV remote:
- Navigate to Menu > Settings > System > Parental/Purchase Controls >
- Follow the TV prompts to create your PIN
- Navigate to Menu > Settings > System > Parental/Purchase
- Enter your PIN
- Choose from the following to select your parental preferences:
- Navigate to Lock/Unlock All Channels > Lock/Unlock ALL
- Navigate to Lock/Unlock Specific Channels> Select Block by Channel > Add/Remove
You can use the same PIN number on multiple devices. You can also use the same PIN for both parental and purchase settings. Additionally, you can set up parental controls using the Fios TV Mobile app. If you need to reset your PIN, you can only reset it from the app.
Setting purchase controls
Purchase controls allow you to set up a PIN to prevent unwanted purchases through your set-top box by doing the following on your Fios TV remote:
- Navigate to Menu > Settings > System > Parental/Purchase Controls >
- Follow the TV prompts to create your PIN
You can use the same PIN number on multiple devices. You can also use the same PIN for both parental and purchase settings.
If you want to prevent purchases from a widget or an app, do the following on your Fios TV remote control:
- Navigate to Menu > Settings > System > Parental/Purchase Controls >
- Enter your PIN
- Navigate to Advanced Settings > Block Widget/App
- Select the widget or app that you’d like to block
- A lock symbol will appear
Using closed captioning
Most Fios TV remote control models give you the option to easily turn closed captioning on or off by pressing the Closed Captioning (CC or asterisk) button. You can always use your interactive media guide to turn closed captioning on or off using your Fios remote:
- Navigate to Menu > Settings > System > Accessibility > Closed Captions > Service Selection >
- Select one of the Closed Caption options and press OK
- CC1 = primary language the show is broadcast in (usually English)
- CC2 = secondary language the show is broadcast in (usually Spanish, if available)
- CC3 thru CC6 (additional languages)
- Use the right arrow to highlight Save
- Press OK and press OK again to confirm
You can also change other closed captioning preferences by following the prompts on your TV screen.
* Note: Closed captioning may not be available based on your equipment and/or setup. A standard definition set-top box or digital adapters may be unable to send or receive closed captioning. You may need to use closed captioning features built into your TV. You may need to refer to the manufacturer’s guide to toggle the closed captions settings for your TV, if needed.
Change the audio and interactive media guide language
Use your Fios remote to change the audio language by navigating to Menu > Settings > System > Language > Audio or IMG Language > and then choosing either English Preferred or Spanish Preferred.
