How does fiber optic technology work?
When you access the Internet, a fiber optic cable carries the laser-generated pulses
of light to transmit the data signal to your business where an Optical Network
Terminal (ONT) converts it to an electrical signal that is understood by your
computer. The Ethernet cable carries the signal to the D-Link router which provides
firewall protection to your computer and can be used as part of a network. Ethernet
cable continues to carry the signal to the Network Interface Card that is plugged
into your computer.
What do I need to do before installation?
Review this checklist before beginning the installation process to ensure you
have everything required to install and use the Verizon FiOS Internet Service.
- Verify that the date you'd like to install is on or past your Service Ready Date
- Ensure that your computer meets the Verizon FiOS Internet Service
minimum system requirements.
- Remove your modem if you had a previous DSL or dial-up Internet connection.
- Remove all the DSL filters if you had a previous DSL Internet connection.
This is an optional step that may be done now or at any later date.
Will I be reminded of my installation date? How will I be
reminded? What happens if I need to change the date?
Yes. Prior to your installation date, you will receive several confirmation calls and
emails from Verizon. It is very important that you provide us with a "can be reached".
number and email address that enable us to contact you with the latest information on
your installation. If you are using someone else's contact information, please be sure
they share any updates with you about your order. Another great source of
